Who was Aharon Liebeskind?

Aharon Liebeskind was born in a village near Krakow in 1912. He had studied law at Krakow University. In 1938 he had become a secretary in the Akiva movement at the age of fourteen. In early 1939 he was appointed national secretary of Akiva and he went to go live in Warsaw, even though he kept his home in Krakow, he still continued his movement here. He had manageed to complete his doctoral dissertation. His job had kept him living in Warsaw, until the war had broken out. He was convinced that Jews wouldn't be able to live under the Nazis, also he did all of this to get his members out of Poland. Liebeskind was a charismatic figure, he was much admired by his fellow members and followers.

A really close tie had existed between Liebeskind and Avraham Leibovich of the dror movement. The two had become commanders of the resistance organization, The Fighting Organization of the Pioneering Jewish Youth. Then in October 1942 the two resistance groups joined together to form the Jewish Fighting organization. In the months that followed, the JFO operated outside of the ghetto, sabotaging rail lines, raiding German warehouses, and even attacking German soldiers and security police.

On October 22, the Jewish figures carried out their boldest plan, a series of attacks on German forces throughout the city. Members of the JFO would throw grenades into three cafes where German officers would meet, sabotage army and police vehicles, distribute Anti-Nazi leaflets, raise Polish flags on the bridges over the Vistula, and even assassinate German soldiers throughout the city. At the Cyganeria cafe, the grenades that had been thrown, killed at least 7 German soldiers and had wounded many more.

The final moments of Aharon Liebeskind are during his planned attack on the Germans. He was inside the headquarters bunker, and then he found himself in a hand to hand combat situation where he didn't make it out alive. He dedicated his life to getting his fellow members and followers out of Poland.

In 1942, there was two major resistance organizations operating in the Krakow ghetto. The first was the Zionist youth organizations, and also the second group composed of many youths Hashomer Hatzair. They merged together to from the Jewish Fighting Organization. They sabotaged rail lines, raided German Warhouses, and attacked German Soldiers, and security police.
