This glycerin can then be removed from the soap, and then subsequently be used in other products. In its form, glycerin is a liquid that is odorless and colorless, but is slightly sweet.

Cetyl Alcohol is a combination of cetyl and stearyl alcohol that generally comes from fruit or vegetable sources, including coconuts, palm oils, corn, or soy vegetable oils. The most common method of getting cetyl alcohol is through the reduction of palmitic acid, a product from palm oil. Cetyl Alcohol is normally in the form of a white, flaky wax-like substance. It is insoluble, and usually has no taste or odor. Cetyl Alcohol can melt to a liquid at 49.3 degrees Celsius. It must be noted that Cetyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol, meaning that it has a long-chain carbon with an even amount of carbon atoms and a single alcohol group attached to the last carbon. This improves its use in skin and healthcare products.

This is through the moisturizing and soothing aspect of the molecule. Due to its soothing aspects, cetyl alcohol can also be used to treat different health problems, such as rashes and burns. It is inherently a chemical that separates oil from water, which allows for products to improve in the hydration aspect. Although it is an alcohol, which can be irritating to the skin, this specific type of alcohol is not, since, as mentioned before, it is a fatty alcohol. The FDA and the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel has stated that cetyl alcohol is safe to use on the skin. 

The purpose of cetyl alcohol in Burt's Bees Facial Cleanser is that it provides a layer of oil above the skin that it is applied to.
