Hi，Dr. and classmates.

My name is Wang Jingyu, from Wuhan, Hubei Province. The photo above was taken at the bromo volcano in Indonesia. Indonesia is a very beautiful place. My undergraduate major is broadcasting and hosting and art. After graduating from college, I worked in advertising planning in three different enterprises for a total of two years. Because my job is advertising, advertising is a job of spreading information to all the public. Many advertisements will exaggerate the practicality and objectivity of things, but also bring reputation and money to things, which has both advantages and disadvantages for scientific communication. So I want to further learn the relevant knowledge, that‘s why I choose to study this course. In the future study, I hope to learn more about scientific communication so that I can have a deeper understanding of it and help me more in my further work.

HUANG ZIYI's Introduction

Hi, everyone. My name is HUANG ZIYI, and I'm from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. I studied Economics at UKM for my undergraduate degree and gained six months of internship experience in Malaysia, where I worked as a BDA (Business Development Administration) intern. This photo was taken near the end of my internship when my UKM supervisor visited the company to provide feedback on my presentation. During my internship, I collaborated with colleagues from the marketing team to photograph products in stores to attract more traffic. Through this process, I realized that while high-quality photos can indeed quickly grab consumers' attention, overly edited or distorted images can mislead them, leading to mismatched expectations between the food advertised and the actual product received. This experience prompted me to reflect on how to balance appeal and authenticity in commercial promotions. In my view, science communication extends beyond merely conveying knowledge; it involves ensuring information is both accurate and meaningfully communicated to the public. This is particularly crucial in today's social media era, where images and videos often directly shape public perception.

Hello glad to meet everyone. My name is Liu Danqi, a undergraduate student majoring in Media in China. Before pursuing my master's degree next year, I worked as a Media Supervisor at Hunan Satellite TV, Beijing Satellite TV, and Beijing Changmeng Culture Co., Ltd. My main responsibilities included developing new media content strategies that align with the company's brand characteristics, planning content themes, and setting strategic directions.

I hold a Host Qualification Certificate and a Journalist Certificate. I believe my professional background with the Host Qualification Certificate allows me to explain complex scientific knowledge in simpler language. Meanwhile, I can explore the stories behind scientific research through my journalist interview skills, building a communication bridge between science and the public that is "easy to understand and engaging to listen to".

I have always believed that science communication should not be a one-way output. With my hosting experience, I can guide the public to ask questions; with my interview skills, I can collect the public's concerns. This helps make scientific content more in line with public needs and truly drives the public to shift from "passive reception" to "active participation".

What excites me most is being able to turn obscure scientific principles into content that the public is willing to share actively through my own design, allowing knowledge to "move" from the laboratory to daily life.

Dear teachers and classmates, it's a great pleasure to meet you all! I'm Zou Tao, from Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. I majored in Chinese Language and Literature for my undergraduate studies and I have been teaching Chinese in middle school for a year and a half. Then I transitioned to working as a journalist in a government news department, focusing on rural development issues such as poverty alleviation and prosperity, and care for left-behind children.

Looking back on my past experiences, they have endowed me with unique strengths. Such as the empathy and communication skills forged through my work as a teacher and journalist allow me to pinpoint the public’s cognitive needs when exploring scientific topics. Meanwhile, the narrative skills I developed from my major in Chinese enable me to transform obscure scientific knowledge into warm, engaging stories that resonate with the general public.

Of course, I am well aware that I lack systematic knowledge in scientific disciplines. This is exactly why I chose to pursue a master’s degree in Science Communication and Public Engagement at the University of Malaya. In this module, I am most looking forward to short video creation. My goal is to become a science communicator. Just as I adhered to the principle of "empowering the powerless and encouraging the pessimistic" in my journalism work, in the future, I hope to use scientific knowledge to build a cognitive bridge.

Looking forward to growing together with you all on this journey of science communication!

I majored in Radio and Television Directing during my undergraduate studies. In the two years since graduation, I have explored jobs in both media and journal editing. To enhance my logical and critical thinking skills and to heighten my sensitivity to issues in life and society amid a busy life, I came to the University of Malaya to study Science Communication and Public Engagement.

I enjoy browsing through all kinds of interesting and contradictory events, and I also love watching movies and reading books that carry social criticism. With a broad curiosity, I still maintain a full sense of doubt and reflection towards many phenomena. The world is so vast that nothing is impossible. I am fully inclusive of various viewpoints and will try to understand problems from the perspectives of different groups. This kind of inclusive thinking is precisely the essence of our learning and research.

I hope that during this period of study, I can master the skills of scientific communication, ask questions boldly, broaden my horizons and cultivate an academic spirit.

I previously oversaw brand management for luxury real estate developments in the capital and also worked part-time at an art gallery.

Among all the projects I’ve been involved in, the most memorable one was collaborating with scientists from the Chengdu Biotown. My role was to translate their innovative research into visual and video content that the general public could easily understand. In addition, I have facilitated the introduction of internationally renowned artists whose mature works explore the intersection of art and technology.

The image shown here is a piece by the renowned South Korean artist Yunchul Kim,whom I’ve had the pleasure of working with. He skillfully integrates ancient Greek mythology with contemporary scientific research, offering unique perspectives that combine art and technology.

Through my work, I’ve noticed that many terms that are second nature to scientists can be completely incomprehensible to the public. I hope that through further learning, I can develop more systematic approaches to bridge the gap between science and the general audience.

My undergraduate major is broadcasting and hosting art, which taught me how to become a language communicator and a journalist. I think my undergraduate major can help me break down scientific barriers with my professional voice and promote public consensus with communication power. Through popular language and rhythm control to eliminate the obscurity of scientific knowledge, and transform complex principles into easy-to-understand expressions for the public.

I chose this major because I want to have a further understanding of science and combine science with media communication. I think it is important to let the public know more about science in modern society, to appreciate science and even participate in science-related activities. I hope this module can help me become an excellent science communicator, give me a deeper understanding and insight into science, and better spread science to the public in my own way.

I realized the power of media in making complex topics accessible and engaging for the public.

I am passionate about how science can be communicated effectively through modern media channels, and I hope to further explore this field to contribute to meaningful public engagement in the future.

Hello everyone, my name is LI WEIWEN. I’m from Taiyuan, Shanxi, China. I completed my undergraduate studies at Sichuan Communication University, majoring in Film Sound Production. I’ve always had a deep interest in social issues and the development of scientific research. Since high school, I’ve been learning writing and communication-related knowledge, which has helped me develop independent thinking and my own perspectives. Therefore, I hope that through my studies, I can help the general public — regardless of their educational background — better understand and participate in the process of social development. I also hope to create a brighter future for myself, lol.
