1:30 - At around 1:30 pm on November 5, police received a phone call from Naomi Lee, asking to check on her employee, Marcel Newgard. Marcel is a 23-year-old graduate student from a local university. He previously missed 2 of his shifts and Lee says that it is rare for him to not call ahead of time. Before Lee called the police, she contacted his sister, and his roommate, Cam.

1:45 - a police officer was informed of the well-being check on Marcel. The officer made his way to Newgard's house to complete the check.

2:00 - When police arrived at the scene, Newgard was found face down on the floor of his garage. He was presumed dead. Police requested for medical assitance, who confirmed that Marcel was deceased. Law enforcement called for backup and the PLTW Forensics Laboraty to examine the scene. Then, the medical personnel radioed the medical examiner, who then came and collected the body.

When the medical examiner's arrived at the scene, fixed lividity and green discoloration were noted. Marcel's rectal temperature was taken to be 93 degrees Fahrenheit, while the temperature in the garage was also 93 degrees Fahrenheit. The Glaister equation cannot be used since the temperature is over room temperature and his body has already adjusted to the temperature around him. Looking at the larva found on his face, it has been between 24-28 hours since he died. Or anywhere from 11/04/2023 at 2:30 P.M. - 11/04/2023 at 10:30 A.M. Since there was no rigor mortis, and the body had already began decomposing, the death was more likely earlier in the day. The last time that Marcel was seen was 10:04 P.M. on Friday November 3rd, and the last he was heard from was 10:50 P.M. on Friday, so Marcel could've died anywhere between 10:50 P.M. Friday, and 2:30 P.M. on Saturday.

Marcel's co-worker at the Biotic Bistro restaurant, year old female - She accused him of stealing her tips and threatened to go to their manager.

Her heart rate and respiration rate were both a little suspicious when she answered the question about when she last saw him and if she killed him.

A new friend of Marcel's, 25 year old male. - Not much is known about him but Marcel recently caught Aiden going through one of the cabinets in the apartment.

It seems like he is lying about the last time he saw him and if he killed him.

Marcel's supervisor at the restaurant, 32 year old female - she contacted police when he didn't show up for two shifts in a row on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. She was aware that Kay and Marcel didn't get along.

Her respiration rate was a little suspicious but we don't think that she is lying on any of the questions.

When looking at Marcel's MRI, it is pretty obvious that he suffered from a TBI on the right side of his brain. No other damages were done to the brain

Looking into the brain histology images, the brain tissue from slice 1 and 2 both show very heavy bleeding internally, as there are red blood cells flooding the tissue. When compared with the average histology images, there is barely any gaps in his tissue where there should be, and most extra space is filled. Looking at sliced 3 and 4, there are no abnormalities, which can suggest that he could've been bleeding on the right side of his head where he got the TBI, where the left side could've been unharmed and without internal/external damage

When looking at the blood tests, the spatter and the baseball bat both matched the positive control, meaning there is blood present. While the negative control matched with the car door.

Toxicology Report

When running tests on the decedent, he tested positive for 65mg of caffeine. This much caffeine is not fatal to a person, so this is most likely not a cause of death. The decedent also had 20mg of acetaminophen. This is also not a fatal amount of this substance.

Looking at Marcel's heart autopsy, there are no clear abnormalities found in his heart.
