My essay is about the impact of ABA Therapy on the Autistic Community. I will analyze both the benefits and disadvantages of ABA Therapy as well as other therapies that may be a better alternative. There are many misconceptions about Autism in society and I hope to inform parents/guardians/educators about what it truly means to be neurodivergent. ABA Therapy is typically recommended to parents of Autistic children as a way to help their kids develop social skills to fit into society. It's a heavily debated Therapy in the Autistic community since many autistic people feel that ABA Therapy is harmful. Whereas parents/guardians/educators believe that ABA Therapy is very helpful in teaching Autistic people life skills. My goal is to analyze both viewpoints of ABA Therapy and produce an overall opinion on whether I believe ABA Therapy is beneficial to the Autistic community or not. I will also recommend alternatives to ABA Therapy for those who are searching ways to help their neurodivergent children or adults in their lives.

I was drawn to this particular source because it feels unbiased enough to properly explain both sides of this argument effectively. I also have trust in this source since it's an educational website.

I chose this source since it is well written and from an government website. This source goes against my personal beliefs on the subject, but I feel that it's important to analyze this perspective for my paper. I also am going to use the statements and facts from this source as a counterargument to my claim.

My third source is about alternative therapies to ABA. I chose this source because I am going to include alternative neurodivergent therapies that may be more beneficial than ABA Therapy. I liked that this website seems personal to the foundation that created it. It also has several therapies listed that I am personally aware of and have experienced. Many people may not be aware of these therapies so I wish to highlight the importance of alternative therapies for Autistic people.

My fifth source is simply about the history of the term Autism and information about how therapies were created to "treat" the traits of ASD. This source is short but I want to use the information to explain how ABA came to be created and why it's still used today. This source will also help me to argue that ABA Therapy is outdated and that there are other therapies that are more beneficial to the Autistic community.
