The past nine weeks my biggest failure was staying motivated. I often faced nights where I felt overwhelmed by work and instead of trying to tackle assignments one at a time, I often just chose not to do them. The zeroes began to add up, as did my stress levels. From this mistake, though, I realized how I could prevent this problem from occurring throughout the rest of the school year.

There were so many times throughout the quarter where I just felt stuck. Looking back on all of those times and knowing what I have done wrong has made me realize there is never just one way to do something. There are often many ways, which leads to thinking outside of the box and doing things out of your comfort zone. For me, this means potentially going somewhere public to study or do school work. Similar to the idea of telling someone a goal so that you will definitely achieve it, working in public would motivate me to actually do my work. Sitting in a Starbucks with my laptop/books open in front of at least a dozen other people would motivate me not to stare blankly at my phone for hours on end, because I definitely would not want all of those people to see me do that.

The past nine weeks I did not put in as much effort as I should have or could have. Often, I put in the bare minimum to get an assignment done and no more. Due to this, I was rarely proud of any of my work during the first nine weeks.

To me, it is important to get feedback from others. A lot of times, especially last quarter, it is not what I want to hear, but it is what I need to hear. The truth can hurt but also be so beneficial to know. Listening to my friends and teachers (especially you, Mrs. Bird) has helped me slowly get back on track and not cut myself anymore slack. Having a great support system that constantly gives honest feedback, including praise, is super important. Plus, hearing one of your best friends say "Lindsey, you need to get your head out of your butt and do your work or else you're going to fail out of school. Wouldn't that disappoint your mom, dad, and your dog?" (it would disappoint my dog because I want to be a veterinarian) is a real motivator.

I know I can learn a lot from my parents, who faced similar problems during their school careers. I can also learn from my teachers who have tips and are willing to help me through things. I can also learn from my friends who are motivated and keep on top of their work.Their study habits can become my study habits quickly.

I also plan on practicing leaving my phone alone and away from me when I am doing work because it has proven to be one of my greatest enemies when it comes to completing work.

(That was sort of a joke) To make it more challenging would really just be to keep presenting work and assignments to continuously have to do.

One thing I would really like to do the next quarter, and throughout the rest of my years in school is become better organized. I want to better organize my room, my notes, and my priorities. I also plan on improving on the violin. I already have made first chair, but I want to sound better. I need to play more notes in tune and learn to play harder pieces. I want to sound better so that I know I am contributing my part to the orchestra as a whole, especially during our competition. I also need to practice more and plan on doing that. I plan on organizing my time in a better way so that I can have a time for everything: socializing, homework, working out, family time, etc. I want to spend more time with my dad and family in general. Over the next nine weeks, I want to improve my grades and my relationships. I want to live more in the moment and focus less on technology because you never really know how long you have left with someone. Genuinely, I want to continue improving because I know there is no limit to it; you can always get better.
