Bobby shows his intelligence on page 210 when he uses a laser pointer to distract a Bedoowan knight. This was smart of him because Denduron is less advanced than present America so he could bring items from Stony Brook to confuse others.

Milago: A mining village that is ruthlessly taxed by Mallos for there ore in return for not being destroyed by the Bedoowan
Bedoowan: People that live in the luxurious castle near the Milago
Stony Brook: Bobby's home town
Tak: An explosive found in the mines of Denduron

All territories have a big battle in which an outsider, traveler, from another territory must come and help steer the battle for their side of choosing. While Bobby might be cowadish, he brings loads of intelligence to help the Milago. Since the USA has already been through slavery, Bobby is able to see the flaws of the "system" the Bedoowan have in progress. Bobby uses his knowledge to try to help the Milago defeat the Bedoowan. Bobby explains to the Milago leader that he shouldn't use explosives to kill the Bedoowan because on Earth "'there are many weapons like [tak]. But the biggest fear we have is that they will be used. There must be another way'"(Machale 289). Bobby used his outsider knowledge of past Earth events to help prevent the Milago from making a big mistake.
