Each of the messages were wrapped in paper that she had colored to look like the wrappers of the candy that I was sad I couldn't eat. Each day I would open the "candy" and instead of feeling sad that I couldn't eat it, I felt encouraged by the little message in it. On the day I got my braces off, my sister gave me a basket with all of the real candy with a little sign on it. Her husband just had his hip replaced, and she was trying to babysit her young grandchildren while also trying to get all of the leaves off her lawn. There were tons of leaves in her front yard that we raked into piles and then bagged for her.
