The subtle differences, slowly shifting backgrounds, all of these moving against the constant repetition in a song aren't just about the sound itself. Repetition is about changing the mindset of the listener as the song continues not so the music is infinite, but so it revolutionizes the way we listen. Ratliff's argument regarding repetition is a more abstract concept than typical definition, however I do still agree with it. His point of view allows the reader to view repetition in a new light. While the music repeats itself it does it in a manner that your state of mind stays or it stays and your change of mind changes.
