Topic 1 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire

It was during this horrendous event that a fire broke out in the triangle Shirtwaist factory, causing the deaths of 146 people. This event was allowed to happen because of the relatively weak fire regulation codes that were prevalent at the time, causing doors out of the building to be unavailable. It was because of this event that fire regulation codes are mandatory in almost ever single building in America.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FguWSsW21CQ
https://trianglefire.ilr.cornell.edu/primary/letters/PaulineNewman.html

During the time of 1915 an British passenger ship was sunk by the Germans, causing the deaths of 124 Americans. President WIlson's response to this disaster diplomatic asking for an apology and recompense. Theodore roosevelt saw this as a sign of weakness and apathy, criticizing WIlson's course of action and berating him. It was because America had not gotten into the war yet that many were appalled at this course of action, making Roosevelt's offer all the more enticing, causing America to want to enter the Great War even more.
https://www.theworldwar.org/us-enters-war
https://www.gilderlehrman.org/sites/default/files/content-images/08003p1.jpg

While African Americans were released from the bonds of slavery after the civil war and technically "free" they had little chance to prove themselves in combat up to the point of WW1 due to small amounts of fighting in the Civil War including African Americans. It was here that African Americans were not only allowed to join the army but encouraged to do so. It was at this point in time that African Americans were heavily seen in the military and would soon lead to desegregated ranks.
https://slideplayer.com/slide/6873935/
http://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/wwipos/background.html

In this flyer a deeply racist and unfair depiction of African Americans is painted. This movie depicts African Americans as the villains of reconstruction and as such should not be allowed into the army. This movie followed up on the popular "clansman" movie which like its grandson depicted African Americans in a negative light and shamed them for being who they are. It was out of this movie that the KKK garnered the attention of the newly formed NAACP causing their inevitable downfall.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRtB6Ur76bw
https://www.gilderlehrman.org/sites/default/files/inline-pdfs/05091.pdf

It was through this treaty that the Great War would finally come to a close and while it started to heal the scars of the Great war it opened many more. It was through this treaty that Germans would bide their hatred of anyone opposing them, eventually leading to the rise of Hitler. It was through this treaty that many stock market crashes would come and Germany would go through a period of hyperinflation causing them to go through a depression all to familiar to its neighbors. The significance of this treaty is that it did end WW1 inadvertently paving the way for WW2.
https://www.c-span.org/video/?324061-1/discussion-woodrow-wilson-treaty-versailles
https://www.loc.gov/rr/program/bib/ourdocs/versailles.html
