One long term memory I have is when me and my family went to Ireland over the summer. I have family there that I hadn’t seen in a really long time. When we arrived in Ireland this triggered my STATE DEPENDENT MEMORY because as soon as I stepped in the house I remembered when it looked like. It was also a UNCONDITIONED STIMULUS because I remembered my grandma’s house automatically. Now that I was older I was able to remember it. It was so fun and one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.

Another long term memory I have is going to the Olivia Rodrigo concert with my mom and my friend. I was so surprised and excited because originally I thought I wasn’t going to be able to go. She was such a good performer and it was one of the best nights of my life. This experience triggered my EXPLICIT MEMORY because it is an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.

One of the best MNEMONIC DEVICES I’ve learned is REHERSAL. By using this method you are able to repeat information enough that you remember it. I use quizlet for this and this app helps me a lot with remembering vocab and using repetition to remember important information.

Another trick that I like to use is watching videos on the topic especially if I’m confused on it. I usually use this method for my history class. This helps with CHUNKING the material into reasonable amounts so you can remember it better, as well as help you to RECALL the information during class or a test.

STORAGE: retaining information in memory over time

If you run into a problem, one thing that can greatly help you would be by using storage to remember important information to get out of that problem. One real life example that has happened to me was when I fell during a routine during a meet. I remembered what to do after I fell because we practiced it and it was stored in my mind.

FLASHBULB MEMORY: A vivid, clear memory of an emotionally significant event or moment.

If you run into a problem flashbulb memory can be very helpful, because it can help you remember what is needed to solve that problem. One time me and my brothers didn’t remember the password to our garage, and we didn’t have another way to get into the house. Suddenly I remembered what it was from an image popping up in my mind, this was because when we were creating the password my mom made a funny joke which triggered me to remember it.

The effectiveness of certain strategies greatly also depends on the context of the situation. EFFORTFUL PROCESSING could be helpful if you need to think to figure something out, but it could also not be helpful if you are under pressure and take too much time. AUTOMATIC PROCESSING is helpful for everyday problems, but may not be helpful for bigger unusual problems. SELECTIVE can help you focus on one thing to solve a problem, but it may not be helpful if you need to focus on more than one thing at once. Overall it depends on the situation.

SERIAL POSITION EFFECT: Tendency to recall info that is presented first and last better than the info presented in the middle. If your mom were to give you a grocery list and you thought you could remember it, but then you get to the store and can only remember a few items, this would be a problem.

FORGETTING: The inability to retrieve, recall, or recognize info that was stored or is still stored in long-term memory. Forgetting things does not help if you are taking a test and forget most of the material you learned. This could affect your grade.

Overall Memory is one of the most important things your brain can posses and do. It allows you to get through everyday life. It stores, retrieves, and process your memories so you can live day to day without forgetting everything. It also lets you remember long term and short term memories and chooses what you need and don’t need. The brain is a very important tool and memory is one of the most important things you can have!

5 songs I don’t need the lyrics too:
1. Cardigan by Taylor swift. I love this song, along with the rest of the songs on the album.
2. Invisible string by Taylor Swift. Again I just love all the songs on this album
3. Summertime sadness by Lana Del Rey. I love her music because I think her voice is calming.
4. Party in the USA. This song reminds me of the 4th of July and I’ve heard it so much I think it would be able to sing it without the lyrics.
5. My Boy only Breaks his Favorite Toys by Taylor Swift. Iv’e just started listening to her new album and this is so far one of my favorites.
