The reason behind my choice of theme was simply because I could easily relate to them and the secondary research would've also been easy to obtain. Disconnection is something I have experienced, as I used to isolate myself from the people around me.

Twins was something very emotional to me as I have siblings which are twins, unfortunately one of them has passed away and that situation was going to link back to disconnection and how my 'living' sister has to deal without her other half

Initially, when asked to select a theme for topic 8, twins and siblings was number one, deja vu was also on the list of the 3 chosen themes required, but after a long one to one /tutorial with my teacher I realised that I wasn't being original, and that family is such a common thing to do which my teacher confirmed in our conversation. On my FMP I chose Déjà Vu as a topic, simply because it isn’t spoke about in the creative industry enough but mostly in science, I also wanted to mix something almost surreal with visual context and show the non-limitation in art.

What is Déjà Vu? Déjà vu is the feeling that the situation currently being experienced has already been experienced in the past. Déjà vu is a feeling of familiarity.

The aims and objectives of this final project isto bring knowledge to people in an interactive manner. Show differentperspectives of thinking through rough sketches, drawings, painting etc ... I anticipate to produce interviews, visual thoughts/rough thinking, trips to museums, research on artist whose work is based on psychology and emotions and finally I will also be physically experimenting (with individuals).

The attachment below shows a personal diary which was completed as I went along with the FMP. It shows what was done in class but also at home, hence the 'maths revision' days. In my opinion not enough work was produced in this final project and I reckon that I could've done much more but my poor timing and organisation has stopped me from doing so. 'N/A' signifies 'not available', meaning no work has been done on those days. The reason behind this is that I went abroad during easter half term for personal reasons which has disturbed my schedules. I also got longer shifts at work which made me tired and had slowed down by pace at college. During couple of days the diary was untouched and with the amounth of tasks asked to produced I had lost track of the time, so when doing the finalizing the diary I went to my camara roll and searched for pictures I took during the project which fortunetly had the dates on it. I had also made personal chechlist which I had the idea to write the date on for furture reference like this. The online applications (word, powerpoint, excel …) given by the college has also helped me with time keeping as the dates are also written on the documents. I had also downloaded WORD, POWERPOINT, PADLET and ONEDRIVE onto my phone so I would be able to do work every and anywhere.

My planning and production was done through rough notes, sketches and talks which were mostly done in my book, loose pieces of paper and my mobile phone. They contain all type of ideas from page set up to annotation. I had the habit to write or type something/anything down as soon as it got to my head to not forget it, later refine the ideas and actually come up with a plan to eventually achieve as wished. I also had convertations with my class mates regarding context and visual overall (peer-assesment) over the phone/ in class helping each other out. I also really helped myself as I was assisting other as ideas were being shared and discussed.

I have created a plan of my daily routine which shows that I go to sleep very late and wake up early which caused me to have a messy lifestyle pattern for the past month which links back to my timing & organisation. I would also do annotation and research whilst on my break at work. My college attendance and punctuality during and at the end of FMP was 86% and 78% (I have never missed any lesson since the begining of the year).

Throughout this topic, I have struggled with visual context as déjà-vu isn’t something you see but something you can feel. Feelings are difficult to draw/paint and can only be interpreted in an expressive literal way.

My preparatory work has had multiple input and modifications to it. I received lot of help when doing my final piece and also obtained couple of ideas which made me alternate my work numerous times. Initially I was going for a more simple & edgy piece. My first idea only had layers of glass on it which I was going to superpose on top of a mirror where a drawing of my face (facing the piece) would rest, making it look like a fragmented collage. After I made the model and experimented with the chosen materials, I realised that it looked too messy and the scale of the piece as a whole was too small and my wish was to make something that would stand out. The artists I have looked at for my final outcome were abstraction and mirror artist. I’ve googled couple of exhibitions and else to found inspiration. When I drew a response and had a tutorial with teachers they gave me the idea to use the work I’ve had done as a guide toward my final piece. The artist is unknown but using my naked eye I assume they have only used glass. I started my 3D mixed media piece on the 08/05/2018 and finished it on the 09/05/2018. The theme of my piece is ‘daily basis abstraction’ My creation represents a chandelier and the materials I have used were paper, foam board, cardboard, hard card, bubble wrapper, glass, foil, scalpel, scissors, glue gun and I have also included LED lights inside my piece. The idea to used boxes came from my teacher, I was quite against it at the start as a wanted the chandelier to have a triangle structure overall. The shape ended up working out as it was more stable and wider.

Although the step were very simple, it took time as I wanted neatness and accuracy all whilst being distorted. The first thing I had done on the boxes (4) was to paint them in black using Ink and acrylic paint. The drying was very fast so I quickly jumped into the cutting out of the triangular shape pieces.

The process in the making of the triangles and ‘spikes’ was very long, tiring and dangerous when working with glass, hence why I had to take precautions as I went along (see final piece problem solving). The choice of colour was my preference as a cold colour theme chandelier would’ve suited my sketchbook and my theme better as déjà-vu is all about flashback, past and memory loss which to me evokes darkness. The reason why the piece as a whole looks like it is exploding is what I picture my brain doing during a episode of deja-vu where confusion is at its highest. Every single material/medium used and its shape links to something I have worked on in my sketchbook. Starting from the easiest section of the final piece which is the bottom boxes. The newspapers and magazines relates to time travelling as books and other literal documents mostly discuss what has already occurred. Theybapproximately took 20 minutes to do, the pages were ripped quickly and stuck onto the side as if they were falling with glue gun.

The use of glass was for reflection and hypnotising as you get dragged/ sucked into it due to its shape. To shatter the glass I used a claw hammer and placed a cloth on top of it for prevention of incidents. Surprisingly the glue was strong enough to hold the pieces of glass onto the box. When picking up the left over pieces I cut my finger but fortunately it was nothing ‘life-threatening’. My peers had also given me an idea to include my face within my piece and put images of myself in action doing the work which I captured using an iPhone 8 Plus. The photography side has brought more to the word ‘mixed-media’. The pictures could be seen as primary research and manipulation of elements. My piece will be in the dark hence why I have added LED lights that I’ve stuck inside. The cut outs will reflect shadows on the nearby wall which directly links to the artist research I have worked on throughout this unit. For a better effect I decided to lay a shattered mirror right underneath my piece which will reflect the inside of the newspaper boxes creating a light sense of throwback/flashback as the bottom boxes already related to time traveling. The reason behind my choice regarding the position of my work at the exhibition is simply for originality. The background story about the location of the making is very messy, as there is a great distance between my house and college, I was obligated to get a taxi which has cost a lot of money. Although I will not be complaining much as I have enjoyed making this piece as abstraction is something I can relate to and also something which can never be accurate. I personally still think I could’ve shaped the structure of the piece differently even thought the square shaped form worked out. Based on a peer assessment done between me and friend on ‘FaceTime’, I could’ve apparently added paint and photoshop within the piece. Responding to her advice I think that it would’ve made it look too heavy/packed and would’ve took the whole attention away, which wasn’t the intention. The message I wanted to convey through my work was the complicated look of simplicity, meaning how effortless/straightforward could a final piece for a final major project look when additional preferential objects get put on.

To conclude this evaluation, I am very pleased with the look of my work whether it’s visual or literal context. I have tried to include everything I’ve learned and used throughout the year in my work of art. More details will be found on the other section of this padlet.

Initially, I had chosen the theme ‘Twins’ which comes under Combinations and alliances. A week after the FMP was given tasks were set and tutorials began, I then altered my initial idea for a more original one ‘The déjà vu experience’ after a dicussion with my tutor. This goes on to explain why I made large scale detail pencil drawings of babies . After the change in theme development of idea made appearances when doing experiment, multiple times I had to go back and refine couple of inperfection which lead me to completely modifying the whole piece.

Another problem solving issue that I had was that the experiments I have done using screen paint turned out good but the maintenance was difficult as the medium only ever dries when on a specific material even after being fix prayed. The paint stayed very tacky and so stuck onto the page on the opposite side which was inconvenient as there was another experiment there. The issue was quickly and easily solved, all I had to do was glue a piece of tracing paper on it, which is stick-free and shares similar characteristics with transparency.

Problem solving was one of the only grading process that consistently came up and that I had to deal with during this Final major project. I had fun looking for solution to difficult/complex issue which made the task easier. The first time it happened I had no idea, My teacher, Christian made me notice it and gave me and my peers couple of advice. The issue came about when I was taking pictures of my class mates against a wooden background wall using another phones flashlight (which was low quality) , standing on a desk chair (wheels) trying to balance whilst holding 2 phones and getting the right angle to catch good shadows. I got told an idea which was to go to the studio, use the professional backdrop with a clean, white backdrop all this whilst being safe and capturing different perspectives.

We was peer-assesing our sketchbooks through an phone application named 'Snapchat' which is a multi-media messaging platform where you can voice note/call one another etc... Going into more details I was giving my friend feedbacks based on the work he has completed so far since the start of the FMP in his sketchbook but also on Padlet. In other voice notes, he confessed that he couldn't find any artist who worked on digital technology (his topic), so I gave him alternatives close enough to what he's looking for, e.g: looking at wire artist, as wire often represents connection and this could link to his work because he's also working on communication etc... In his voicenote he comfirmed that the idea I had just given him was good and that he will give it a go and he even expanded on the subject himself ans set himself tasks.

Overall, I believe that I have a strong body of work in my sketchbook, I have explored different sub-title within my initial/main theme. Interpretation were accurate and consistant. I have completed most of the tasks sheets given and even done extra work. My annotations were always full and analysed in details with colour/material swatch/samples. Strengths and weakness were always listed and the step by step were shown or described. I had a wide range of materials used which is essential to have, as it shows variety. I was also able to identify, plan and develop and art and design final major project under 8 weeks. My research supported my ideas and creative proposal. I have also demonstrated that I could be harsh on myself same way I critique and peer-assess my class mate's pieces. Based on a conversation between my teachers and peers,I have agreed requirement and parameters to peer-assement, give personal checklist and class advice due to my honesty and the knowledge I gained this year. I have understood the unit's structure and occasionally referred back to previous units for reference. FMP has broaden and deepen my understanding regarding thinking across contemporary and historical art. Investigation were made to explore ideas from different perspective. Recognising that I had to be realistic in term of achievement and being able to manage, material resources, time etc...During the process of this final major project analysing the conception, surrounding and be able to observe was very important. I have understood the unit's structure and occasionally refered back to previous units for reference.

Evaluation of course as a whole. Throughout the year, I have enjoyed everything, from the syllabus to the way me and my class mates were taught. CWC had all the necessary equipments and if not they would order it in for you. Really nice staff and vibe, even though there were couple on and off in our class but overall I never had any personal issue with another student as we all helped each other with work and pieces, we got closer as the times went by. We had our photography/digital art teacher changed 3 times since September 2017 which interfered with our learning. My tutor Hazel Dance was very persistent regarding our work and the way we were managing it. It was another atmosphere as the transition from secondary to college is a big step. The only thing I would complain about is the printer in the ‘Mac room’ which worked once in a while, which has cost students to go down to the library to pay. Concluding, I have learnt so many thing, with the different teachers, I got to experiment and experience creativity in diverse way. I wish to go onto level 3 because UAL art and design level 2 is something that I enjoyed and I’m excited and can not wait till Level 3 to expand my knowledge and more.

After comfirming what I wanted to achieve within this project, I went on to focus on the literal side of it rather than the physical and mental. The first page of my sketchbook shows a lamp with text written all around it, which are poems. That page was supposed to be a start up to/for me to start discussing déjà-vu in books, films and other media source. The plan changed when I peer-assessed my project proposal, I realise that I wasn’t going to enjoy it one bit and chose a different path. Light, darkness, motion etc.. were also never actually on my personal checklist but were given to me from my class mates as ideas to develop, which I have produced in a photographic and experimental way. I had to be very critical and make lot of mind maps and research, before I could put anything in my sketchbook. It was important that I wasn’t too attached to my first ideas, as exploring and creating is a way more orignal way to come up with something unseen before. The attachment below shows the transition between the literal aspect of my theme to the experimental aspect.
