Today my granddaughter is having a friend over to see our family's beuteyful pottery. The friend strangely won't tell me her name, I can also see by her face that she's never attempted pottery, this is why me and Ella need to teach her the way of pottery. "Hey" I say to the friend "did you know that we won the new Mexican pottery championship, and if we teach you mabye you could win next time" "thanks" she says back. We are going into the Clay cave (as I like to call it) with Ella's friend, they're laughing at a joke they made, I wonder if it's about me? Any hoo we are know working on the pots, Ella's friend seems to be enjoying this, (I didn't think she would.) Finally, I stayed inside the house and sat near a window while my husband fired the pots with Ella and her friend. "Be careful out there" I said to them "we will, don't worry!" *Fwosh* The flames rose so high that even people in California could probably see it! After all of the pot making fun Ella's friend is going to go home, but before she left she said to me "I didn't think I would like pottery, but now I really love it!" And with that I hand her a coil seed pot and said "come back anytime!" "Oh, don't worry I will!" She said back.

When we put the pottery in the fire, Ella's mom said we had to go home. I begged her mom to stay for at least 2 more hours, or at least until we finish firing our pottery. ( LOL, get it? ) Ella's mom finally agreed to and we stayed for 2 more hours. We finished firing the pottery and I learned a wee bit more about Grandma Loreen. Then the 2 hours were up and we went home. The End

Me and Ella begged our parents to let us stay in Grandma Loreen’s pueblo tonight for a long time. They finally allowed us to. After they left, we finished burning the pottery after dinner and played a game where whoever shot an arrow the farthest won. The pottery was sturdy and had a beautiful golden, slightly brownish color when it was taken out. It was perfect, with not even the slightest cracks at all. We watched Grandmother Loreen and Ella’s uncle take the pottery out of the fire. They set the pottery out in the night to cool off. Grandma Loreen told us some Native American stories like why bats are considered as mammals today. Another was a story about how a girl sacrificed her prized possession for much—needed rain after a long drought. I felt really close to Grandma Loreen when it was time for bed.

When we got to the Ella's house, I said good--bye and went home. I told MY mom about the awesome trip and how Grandma Loreen had given me a piece of here collection of pottery.

The next morning we woke up to the tasty smell of Grandma Loreen cooking breakfast. As we ate, we wondered about if the pottery was ready for painting and completely cooled. Ella went out to check on it, reporting that it seemed ready to paint. After breakfast we went outside with cans of paint Grandmother Loreen made with natural things. There were lots of colors and shades of paint! We used many of them. I painted trees and birds and creatures, and Ella painted the sun setting in the desert. “Wow, they’re really beautiful!” Ella’s uncle complimented. “Thank you!” we answered. We painted the pottery and coil pot until 1 o’clock in the afternoon. Our parents came to pick us up, and I felt sad to go because I was really close to Ella’s Grandmother now. We took our pottery and coil pots, waving goodbyes and went home. I put my coil pot on the windowsill, and the pottery by my desk in my room. I wish to visit Grandmother Loreen again one day.

I’m very excited. My granddaughter Ella is coming to my pueblo with a friend today. When they finally arrived, I greeted them excitedly. But Ella’s friend wouldn’t reveal her name. I asked, “Who wants to try pottery?” Ella yelled “YES!!” as well as her friend. I was surprised to see her friend eager to make pottery. We went to a cave for clay, wet it, and started forming the shapes. It was almost time for the sun to set when we finished. Ella’s uncle made a fire that shot up high into the sky! The people in Wyoming could’ve seen it! We burned our finished pottery, but then their parents came. Ella and her friend begged to stay for the night here, so I said, “I’m okay with them staying with me tonight!” Their parents finally agreed and left. We finished burning the pottery after dinner and a game, then we took the pottery out of the fire. It was beautiful! Golden and slightly brownish, it had no cracks at all! We set it out to cool. I told some Native American stories I heard as a child. I felt close to Ella’s friend when we went to bed. The next morning, Ella, and her friend painted the pottery and coil pots after breakfast. I gave them many colors of paint I made. After what seemed like a few minutes of painting, the parents came. “What time is it?” Ella asked. “It’s 1 pm,” said the parents, “We really need to go home now.” Ella and her friend said “Goodbye, Grandmother Loreen!” I said my goodbyes, too. I gave Ella and her friend the pot and coil pot they painted. I hope they come back soon, I thought, as I watched their cars run.

So when they are here I greeted them with a warm tortillas when they have arrived. After when they are done eating they followed me outside and Ella's Uncle was preparing the fire. He put wood in the pit in order to fire my pottery I have made. I used the coil method when I was making my pottery. I showed her friend how to make a seed pot. Ella and her friend helped by rolling the coil clay. Ella's uncle was ready to fire the pot. All of the wood brined and the ashes was smoothed out. I carefully positions my pot between the other. They stick newspapers and twigs into the base. Ella's uncle light the fire and the flames shoot up into the sky. When it was still burning Ella friend have to go. So I said "next time you come I gave you the one you helped fire and you can have my seed pot for now". And she said "thank you". Later after that she left.

The End

She also got to see ella's uncle who was making question big fire so they could hear up the pots, I always reminded Ella's friend of what was happening. By the time she really got it or was interested,my daughter said it was time to go home.

When will we go back to see Ella again, mom? "Probably not in a while, she lives too far away." "Bye, Ella!" I yelled loudly through the window as she waved to me. "They are very nice," my mom said. "We might come back soon for a surprise." I knew if we went back, I would be a pottery master! So, I begged o go back again. I really think Ella has a cool life.

When I was walking to Ella's grandma's house with Ella, I was excited about the pott what I made with people. We finally came to Ella's grandma's house and I saw lots of pott in the garden..."Look at that!" They were more pretty what I thought. It was all pretty except for 1 pott. It was a pott what I made. I dont know why but it still looked preety. I think its because the pott was made by my hard work. And after 10 minute we did a party for pottery. There were lots of food and pottery. We did lots of things like dancing and singing about Native american. And we and like that

I climbed into the gold Toyota Minivan, for we had a big family so we needed a big car, and I waved goodbye to Ella and her grandmother. It made my heart sick a little that I had to leave Ella and her grandmother after such an amazing day I had had with them. When I was all buckled up, Mother asked me “So how was it? Did you enjoy?” “It was SO fun! Ella, her grandmother, and I made pots together. I have never made one, so it was fun experiencing these new opportunities of different cultures! Oh, and Ella and her grandmother walked me through each and every step of making a seed pot, and there are A LOT, so next time I see a hand made pot, I am definitely going to appreciate all of the time and effort that it takes to make one.” I said. “Well sweetheart, I’m very glad that you are adjusting to here, and that you are making amazing new friends. I know that the move has been hard for you, but now you are seeming to row smoothly in your river.” I smiled at mother when she looked back at me. I knew that she was very proud of me, and I felt proud of me too. I hugged my pot, as if was the answer to why I was adjusting to our new home. The thing that her mother was really surprised about though, was the fact that her daughter was interested in learning about different cultures. Her mom knew that she had now actually been paying attention in class, instead of zoning out like she did back in their old home, in California. As our car pulled up in the driveway and I got into the house, got ready for bed, and climbed into it. Mother and father had come to give me goodnight kisses, and wish me sweet dreams. I said goodnight, and they shut my door and went to sleep themselves. Just like that, I fell asleep, tired as anything from the long day of pot making. I dreamed of pot making galore, and the most amazing and talented pot maker, Grandmother Loreen. I dreamed of being as good as her one day. I knew that the pot that Grandmother Loreen had gave me wasn’t any ordinary pot. It was special. I knew this, because Grandmother Loreen had made it herself.

As I heated up the tortillas in the pan above the fire I heard someone knock on the door. “Ella honey, I think that your friend is here!” “She is! She’s really here?” “Why don’t you go and check?” I replied. My little Ella had been so very exited about her friend coming over. She hasnt stopped talking about their playdate for the past two weeks! I was very exited too. I always love when Ella brings her friend to our home. They are always so nice and thankful, but little did I know that this friend of Ella’s was going to go above and beyond. Her friend came into the house with a grin from ear to ear. I knew that the smell of the tortillas was giving her a happy feeling. “Well hello darling!” I said to her friend. “Hi Ella’s grandmother!” The little girl walked straight to me and shook my hand. Although she did this, she didn’t mention her name. “What’s your name sweetie?” I was curious to know. The smile on her face faded a bit, but I didn’t know why. “She prefers not to say.” Stepped in Ella. “You can just call me Isabelle as a nickname.” She said to me. “Okay then Isabelle, would you like a tortilla? You must be hungry from the car ride, I suppose? I said to her as I held out a tortilla to her hands. Ofcourse ma’am, I would like a tortilla please! They smell delicious! Thank you for taking the time to make them! Said Isabelle. All three of us sat down to eat outside, while catching some breeze. I told the two young ladies why we were going to be doing for the day, and they looked like bobbleheads, nodding at every sentence I said. We cleaned up our plates and I took the two girls outside to the caves. They followed every little step I told them to. Isabelle was a very good listener and pot maker, considering that she had never done it before. Her level of patience was so high, and she was so polite while talking to me. I was shocked with how mature an eight year old could act. The whole afternoon went by, making pots and pots and pots. When it was time for Isabelle to leave, I gave her my special pot for a special person. I knew that I would miss that pot, but she deserved it. Seeing such a beautiful souled person leave hurt my heart a little bit, but I knew that I would see her again.
