Algonquin-
-The Algonquin of Ontario are one step closer to assuming tens of thousands of acres at their ancrestal territory in a historic treaty, but their counterparts in Quebec are voting legal action to stymie the agreement and delay a deal decades in the making.

-The agreement in principle signed Tuesday in Ottawa encompasses roughly 36,000 square km of land stretching from parliament hill to parts of Algonquin park and up to north bay,an area that Algonquin in Quebec also say is their territory.

-The Algonquin were on the Ottawa river and its tributaries valleys when the French moved into the area.Samuel the campaign made contact with the Algonquin's in 1603 shortly after the establishment the first pernament French settlement on the St.lawrence at Tadousse. In 1610,Algonquin guides accomplished Etlenne blue on his vapage to the interior of Canada.

-The source of the word Algonquin is unclear. Some say it came from the Malecite word meaning “they are our relatives,” which would suggest Algonquins were part of a broad group of native peoples. Others say Algonquin means “at the place of spearing fishes and eels from the bow of a canoe”. Another interpretation is “those that are dancing.”

The Ojibwe is also known as the Ojibwa, Ojibway and the Chippewa are part of a bigger group called Anishinaabeg.Currently there is a population of around 60,000 Ojibwe people living in Canada and 130,000 people of Ojibwe descent living in the U.S.A. This is not uncluding the population of the Metis with Ojibwe blood. Second largest Indigenous group in Canada. Back in 1764 it was said there was a population of around 30,000 Ojibwe people. However the Americans in 1843 said there was a population of 30,000 Ojibwe people in just the US in the 1700's. In the 17th century moved from the Great Lakes to other parts of southern Ontario. Many Ojibwe groups in Canada did not sign treaties with the government until after 1850. However some American Ojibwe groups signed their first treaty with other groups and the government in the early 1800's. The life of the Ojibwe people had changed a lot by the early 1800's. They were forced to sign treaties with the governments of Canada, Britain, and the US. The governments wanted the land of the Ojibwe people and were offered Hinton rights, money and different land in a different location. Though most of the time the Ojibwe agreed to these treaties the government broke many of its promises and moved these groups into reserves. The government wanted to change how the people of Ojibwe governed their communities another reason of why they were displaced all over the country. The government thought the Ojibwe were not modern, they sent the kids away to residential schools where they were taught other cultures. They speak Anishinaabemowin.
