I met Randy in 1998. I had just returned from New Orleans and was thinking of going to school to become an art teacher. My sister-in-law, Holly, told me she worked with a guy our age whom I might connect with. I reached out to him and he allowed me to come visit his classroom. I knew I wanted to teach Art because of Randy. I got lucky landing a job in Danbury which allowed me to work with Randy more closely. During my lunch period or break, I would make my way down the the art dungeon to get my daily dose of Wade. I can’t remember anything specific but I remember watching a lot of weird YouTube videos, commiserating about the daily grind of teaching or new parenting, and laughing A LOT. Randy was a caring teacher, a loving father, and an amazing friend.

He would always make me laugh. I would sign up for so many art classes because of how much I enjoyed being in his classroom. 
He was and forever will be one of my favorite teachers.

Seeing him in DHS had brought me so much happiness. He always offered advice and help, and was extremely caring, funny, and just overall a good person. I wasn't very popular, and was kind of a nerd, and Mr Wade was always encouraging me to put myself out there, and showing me art I'd never hm seen, and music my parents wouldn't approval of, as all cool adults should. One day I took his advice and really tried to be included, playing wall ball at recess with the other kids. The ball went over the fence and I thought I would try to look cool and jump the fence to get it. Unfortunately, my pants got stuck, and when I tried to jump down, I was stuck, hanging upside down, by my own pants.  Everyone was too busy laughing to help, and I wanted to cry and hide, but I couldn't move. Mr Wade ran over, picked me up off of the fence, and told everyone to ignore my Spiderman impression until I had worked it out better. Everyone laughed, and by the next day it was completely forgotten. Later, he told me that people will like me or not like me, but as long as I liked myself, I shouldn't feel like I have to try so hard to get approval from others; that one day I would find my tribe, and they would love me for who I was already.

At a time when I was really lonely in life, Randy showed me the unifying power of a good joke, and that small acts of compassion can mean a lot to people. He also taught me to try and be the adult that kids need around, and it made me a better person, and mother. One of the memories of art I had from then was tracing our names in the primary and secondary colors. But the one thing I’ll never forget was his collection of Simpsons Burger King toys. He was always trading with students to build his complete collection. Fast forward about 10 years he moved up to DHS just in time for me to sign up for classes with him. My cousin convinced me to sign up for 3D modeling and animation our senior year with Wade and it was one of the best things I ever did. Wade filled 3 out of the 6 classes I had my senior year and it was no doubt my favorite year at DHS. I was never really great at art but Mr. Wade always made me want to be great. He also happened to be our class advisor and it was special to me that he was the one to announce my name at graduation. And before I forget he had the whole first set of Burger King Simpsons toys on display in his classroom and I’m sure at one point I traded at least one of them to him!
