The tragic Challenger Space Shuttle disaster on January 28, 1986, deeply impacted the nation and the world of space exploration. It was a tragic reminder of the risks involved in space travel, leading to major safety protocols being made within NASA. This event took the space industry and citizens by storm, with gasp and guilt. I heard that Big Bird for Sesame Street was supposed to be on the challenger, so it could've been more traumatizing for the world

The release of the first Macintosh computer by Apple on January 24, 1984, marked a significant leap in personal technology use. Its introduction of a graphical user interface and mouse revolutionized how people interacted with computers. Compared to what we have now it seems as if this stuff is stone age material. It was the future back then though.

Live Aid, held on July 13, 1985, was a groundbreaking dual-venue benefit concert aimed at raising funds for famine relief in Ethiopia. Featuring performances by some of the biggest names in music, it highlighted the power of entertainment to mobilize global action. One of the most famous artists that most people know performed in this concert. Queen. The concert helped raise money and help for the third-world country and I think that this event had opened more opportunities for artists, musicians and bands to help support many more people through their music.

The fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989, although not in the United States, had profound implications worldwide, including U.S. politics and society. It marked the beginning of the end of the Cold War and symbolized the victory of democracy over communism. East Germany and West Germany finally met after 27 years of being separated, even before that. The fall of the Berlin Wall symbolized the beginning of the new world where communism diminishes leading for peace and friendliness.

The signing of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty on December 8, 1987, between the United States and the USSR, was a landmark in the efforts to end the arms race. It eliminated all of the two nations' land-based intermediate- and shorter-range missiles. This includes ballistic missiles and cruise missiles, though air and sea controlled missiles were not affected by this treaty. War is not desirable, but missiles are the most dangerous and effective ways to kill people, enlisting a sort of "cease fire" was a a logical solution for both sides not to lose men.

The infamous Black Monday stock market crash on October 19, 1987, was the largest one-day percentage decline in stock market history. It highlighted the global interconnectedness of financial markets and led to significant regulatory changes. Jon Dows dropped a whopping 22% on that day. This was big problem globally costing around a total of 1 trillion dollars. But the US got hit hard with it including the drop in value of the US dollar.

First marketed as the "Family Computer" or "Famicom", in 1983 the Nintendo Entertainment System released in Japan. There were many problems with the first design, but with how Donkey Kong was such a huge hit, Nintendo still made money from it all. With some bug fixes and a redesign in 1984, it finally took the world by storm. I read that the US tried making their own Console somewhat like the NES called the AVS. This did not turn out profitable for the US, so Nes still stood at the top for a long while.

A film released in 1997 that would become one of the most memorable films of US and global history. Based on a true story about the "Unsinkable Ship" the Titanic, James Cameron delved into the lives of Jack and Rose who experienced the heart-breaking horror of the sinking of the titanic. The budget for the production was 200 million, and somehow the movie profited tenfold with 2.2 billion dollars in the box office. I have never seen this movie and I don't plan on watching it.

In the 1980's, video games became a staple of the entertainment industry almost 30 years after the release of the first publicly released video game, PONG. This started with the release of PAC-Man on Namco. systems. This one game popularized arcade machines because there were not many systems until 1983 when the NES released. This created so many opportunities for many more games in the future. going from PAC-Man to something like Elden Ring is an incredible jump.

Declared as the most devastating disaster in US history. On May 18th, 1980, the top of Mt. St. Helens blew open causing the entire mountain's side to collapse and cause major destruction far from the epicenter. The eruption causes 57 deaths and 1.1 billion dollars in property damage. (almost 3.3 billion dollars now). This shows how unpredictable the world can be, the last eruption was in 1840s so the reaction between the earthquakes and the built-up energy caused a major disaster.

Dec. 2nd, 1982, Barney Clark had received the first ever human artificial heart transplant in the world. Barney was a 61-year-old with a dying heart and the only way was through a heart transplant, but Barney was too old to get a regular human to human procedure. So, Dr. Jarvik had been working on artificial hearts. The procedure was successful, calling it the first ever artificial human heart transplant. The Heart was pneumatically controlled by air. so instead of regular beating it would be whoosh sound. Imagine hearing that in your chest. though you would still have to be hooked up to tubes running inside you it would still be pretty neat.
