  • What role do you play in organizing the club?


    • The great part about this club is that I have members that have been in the club for 3 years going now. I have strong leadership that aren't afraid to communicate. This allows the club to flourish but within the parameters of coding and hacking. 

    1. What are your goals for this club?
    • To go to more competitions and win more as well.

    1. How do you compare learning coding in Hack Club to your courses, such as AP Computer Science Principles?
    • In Hack Club it is a little more advanced and hands on and goes at a much faster pace.

    1. What classes or programs do you recommend to someone if they want to learn coding or get into computer science, in or out of school?
    • Computer science principles is very introductory and then you can really guage whether coding is for you and pursue from there.

    1. What are some skills you recommend to be successful in this club as well as in general, computer science?
    • Take the time to learn the basics and learn 1 language fully. Also be open minded that in coding that there is not always 1 correct solution.

    *What did you think when they expressed their ideas about the club? 
    Response: Mrs. Velez-Soto related because she was born and raised in the Caribbean; she was interested.

    *Were you open to starting a club or was this a choice that took some time to think about? 
    Response: The sponsor was open to sponsoring the club and she accepted the offer.

    *How did students respond to the club?
    Response: Students were interested in the club from the start and it grew progressively. There is a minimum of about 15 students every year. 

    *How is the club going now?
    Response: There are lots of ideas out there regarding the club. Members tried to get UCF involved but it didn't work. However, the club helps the community overall. People invite friends and classmates to the club sometimes. It is a good time for socializing/interacting with new people and gaining insight on different cultures.
