I can tell you, that I agree when you say that the plot is a bit slow, the viewer must be patient. But, I think the plot of the film is very deep, the personal problems its something really complicated.
I Although it isn't a musical, the songs are amazing, especially "shallow", that song transmits a lot.

The film immediately caught my attention because I love Lady Gaga and I’m curious to see her as an actress playing Ally. In addition to the director and the prizes he has won, you can see that it is a great film, and "the best drama film of 2018" as you said! To be honest, I’m not a fan of drama film, but I think this one deserves a shot. At the same time I really love movies that are musical, so I’m disappointed that’s not the case.
