I found what she said about the gifted kid with a learning disability very interesting. Often I find myself not able to pin point how to help a student. It's so hard to tell what is really going on. I am going to look at some of my students differently after seeing this.

I found the talk very interesting in demonstrating the huge variability in gifted learners. Just because a student is gifted in one area does not guarantee the same success in another, and it is important to be mindful of the fact that gifted learners still face the same challenges as other students in our classrooms.

Being "gifted" does not mean you excel in every area. A student may be gifted in math or science but have issues with reading fluency or social interaction issues. All gifted students are different, just as non-gifted students are, and instruction must be individualized to meet all of their needs as well.

We often forget that just because someone is labeled GT doesn't mean they can take care of themselves. I also thought the link between asthma/allergy and sensory issues was interesting. We need to remember to look at the individual student and not the label.

Vaughn

I found it very interesting how she pointed that we always think that GT students excel in all areas but that is not true. We need to realize that each GT student has their own strength and weakness, so we need to take that into consideration when we are teaching each student. We need to get to know them so that way we are aware of what they like/enjoy and what is a bothersome to them.
