In exploring the tools I feel the website Commonsense Education is by far superior to the other tools explored. I prefer it because it is most suitable to the grade level I will be teaching in the near future. I also like that the site offers professional development for teachers and also information for families to continue at home what was learned in class.

In my findings I chose to define what Digital and Global citizenship and what they mean. I also took a closer look at the Digital Footprint lessons for Grade 3 and Grade 4. I believe it is important for students to make a personal connection to their digital identity then it can be translated into their global citizenship.

 

Next, I took a look at the Global Citizen website to see how I could get students involved in creating a Global Digital Identity to support a cause that was worthwhile for them.

Students have the opportunity to participate globally by becoming online activists, whether that means sending out a tweet via Twitter to a World Leader of a nation, signing a petition, obtaining knowledge through quizzes, and leaving messages online. 

It’s important for students to know the issues that extend beyond their own country. In Canada we have many Indigenous communities however, not many people know there are other indigenous tribes located across the globe who are facing or have faced the same barriers as the Indigenous Peoples of Canada. Which is why I would like my class to participate in the Global Citizen platform to raise awareness about the Indigenous People fighting for their right to an education. It’s a relatable topic for students as we have learned in Canada that the Indigenous People also face extreme hardships and traumas due to our education system. Though directly on the site there isn’t an Action Point fo the Indigenous Right to Education however, we can create our own through social media platforms. Create our own PSA’s including QR codes on various topics within raising “The right to Education for Indigenous Peoples' ' which can also extend into media literacy planning.

Students can create their own form of action as a Global Digital Citizen to raise awareness for Indigenous People's right to education across the globe. It may also be further extended to promoting Truth and Reconciliation in schools for Indigenous students.
