Efren Penaflorida is a street children teacher and social worker here in the Philippines. He also experience poverty, he lives near a city dumpsite in a barong barong. He is educating street children and out of school youth through his “kariton classrooms” to divert them from joining street gangs and he has been recognized as "CNN Hero of the Year" for 2009 because of it. He doesn't want other people to experience what he had before that's why he is making a way to promote education to street children to overcome poverty through his classroom cart.

Born to a poor family, Efren experienced living in a barong-barong near a city dumpsite. He took the challenge to overcome poverty, realizing the importance of basic education and the advantage of just being able to read. He used his resources and the best of his abilities to reach 1,500 kids. It is truly amazing. Efren Peñaflorida is a teacher and a social worker here in the Philippines.
