The first in school were started in southern Mesopotamia by Sumerians. The kings and priest realised that they need education for scribes, so the invention of writing are invented in mid-4th millennium BC. Sumerians started to record what they saw around them with the invention of writing. They recorded business records, inventories, observations of daily life, religious hymns and etc. Cuneiform writing became more complex in the 3rd millennium as it tooks about 12 years to learn it. Soon, temples starts to establish school to educate the boys as scribes and priests. Schools at that times charged costly tuition fees which most of the people can’t afford it. Only those boys from wealthy family are able to afford costly tuition fees. Girls during that time are not allowed to go to school unless they are king’s daughter.
Reference - https://www.historyonthenet.com/mesopotamian-education-and-schools/

Ziggurats can be found scattered around the current Iraq and Iran. Among all of the ziggurats in Mesopotamia, the Ziggurat of Ur was one of the most important to the civilization. The construction of the Ziggurat of Ur began under the king Ur-Nammu of the Third Dynasty of Ur. It was dedicated to the moon god Nanna, the divine patron to the city state. At that time, people who visit Ziggurat of Ur were to seek both physical and spiritual nourishment. The most important part of the ziggurat is the Nanna temple which was located at the top. Unfortunately, it did not survive. As for the lower parts of the ziggurat, it consists of detailed engineering and design. As an example, due to the fact that unbaked mud brick core of the temple would be more or less damp depending on the season, the architects made it possible to allow water to evaporate from its core by including holes through the baked exterior layer of the temple. The Ziggurat of Ur has been restored twice, first being in the antiquity. The second restoration was made recently by Saddam Hussein. However, during recent war led by Americans and coalition forces, Saddam Hussein used the ziggurat as a form of shield as he assumed the bombers would be afraid to destroy the ancient site. As a result, the ziggurat sustained some damage from the bombardment.
Reference-
https://www.khanacademy.org/humanities/ancient-art-civilizations/ancient-near-east1/sumerian/a/ziggurat-of-ur
