My name is Hazar Shehadeh, and it is my pleasure to be your instructor in this class.

I have a BA in English literature and English as a second language, MA in English with a minor in film criticism, and PhD in linguistics. 
I have been teaching for over 11 years; I have taught different face-to-face, hybrid, & online classes ranging from writing skills, composition, rhetoric, film criticism, to literature. 
 
  

I had reviewed and developed curricula and worked in different research studies to accelerate under-prepared and at-risk students’ learning at the college level.  I have been working on different research studies about the teaching strategies and using technology in the classroom to enhance minority group students' performance.  


I have published a few articles and participated in different conferences in Spain, Canada, and Greece. 


I live with my husband and our 2 kids and dog in Houston.  I enjoy working out, running, and cooking. I like to read recent educational research and enjoy scholarly, scientific writing. I also like to travel to different places with my family!


I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and getting to know you better as the class progresses.

My name is Kyla Russell. My home campus is in Auburn Hills, I live about 20 minutes north of the campus. I am majoring in Early childhood education with the ZS endorsement (special education). I currently work full time with my dad at a car company and I was recently promoted! I am really working and doing school a lot right now. I love to travel!! 

One interesting thing about me is, in high school about 4 years ago I got to train with a family friend who was in the Olympics in 2016 which was an amazing experience. I was training for inline speed skating which I now do for fun (sometimes). I trained in Salt Lake City, Utah for about a month with my family friend and had a great time! 

My most priced possession is my cat (pictured below), Bandit! He is one of the great men in my life!!

Hello, 
My name is Skyi Phillips-Dancy,  name pronounced sky I am from Detroit, Michigan born and raised. I have been a student at Baker college for quite some time now only because I couldn’t decide on a major, I wasted a lot of money but did not want to give up because I knew if I took a break it would be hard to come back. I am currently and Education major with a focus in ELA, I plan on giving back to the community by teaching in Detroit, Michigan if not I will pursue other states. I am my my mothers only child but I have other siblings through my father. I am 25 years old, after persuing my masters with education I will continue that on or I will get another degree under my belt in something else, I am still deciding on that. I decided to upload this picture because this is my support system and also my immediate family, it is missing my niece and nephews, as well as my sister. These are the people that keep me going and is pushing me to the finish. Not only do I want to make myself proud I want to make them proud as well. I always tell myself no matter how long it takes, all that matters is that you did it. I am the one in the second row to the far right when looking at the picture. I forgot to mention something memorable about myself, this is something that is important to me, I am 25 years old and I am a type 1 diabetic, I am the only one in my family that most of us know that have type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed when I was 4 years old so it is a lifestyle to me let alone a serious condition, however, I don’t complain about it and it could be worse. On the side note I look forward to what this class has to offer.

I never thought I would move, but this year my parents moved to the Detroit area for certain reasons such as working. This has been the most stressful time of my life considering the fact that I am not even able to drive. It is very hard for me to get used to this lifestyle and I complain literally every single day of my life. I have attended Baker College of Allen Park in the spring, and before this college I was in the Borough of Manhattan Community College and I loved it. I was an education major and I still am, however I just kept changing the area of teaching which caused my credits to fly everywhere. Which really sucks because I have to take classes over that I have already took. On the bright side I did not have to take a remedial math, which is the only thing I gained from switching colleges. I hate math and it gives me really bad anxiety, I think I'm more scared of math than anything else.
