Career advisors meet with our adult and home/private/charter school students and sometimes parents in-person, on Zoom, and over the phone. We also help potential students explore career pathways with interest, skills, and work-value assessments.

Moore Norman Technology Center offers A LOT of services, classes, and value to our community. Remember that it will take some time (probably a year or more!) to somewhat grasp all that we do. And as soon as you do “get it”, MNTC will change, lol! We are the most dynamic, most helpful network of caring people with which I have ever worked!

]]> 2022-10-26 00:49:40 UTC https://padlet.com/idafryhover/uguakax0hperaojt/wish/2356364269 Toni Perry, Career Advisor idafryhover https://padlet.com/idafryhover/uguakax0hperaojt/wish/2356364852 As a Career Advisor, I work with prospective students and advise them about both long-term/career programs and short-term classes.  The requirements for each of these programs and classes vary widely, so it is imperative that I am familiar with all of them.  Many prospective students have a really good idea of what it is they want to do and what type or program or class they want to pursue.  There are some who are not so sure and with those prospective students, I work with them to explore their interests and aptitudes with the goal being to help them determine the best path forward to meet their needs.  For the most part, prospective students will find a program or class at MNTC that will fulfill their goals.  In the rare situation that MNTC does not have a program/class that will meet the individual’s needs, I do assist them in exploring other options.

It is important for a new hire to know that MNTC has a wealth of programs and classes and each of these may have somewhat different requirements for acceptance/enrollment.  Because it can take some time to learn all of this information, it is important to be patient with yourself during that learning process so that you will be able to disseminate the information to prospective students in a manner that they can understand.

My advice would be to realize that communication and transparency with co-workers is vital so that we can best meet the needs of our customers.

I create the graphics/designs for print, digital and web ads for the district. I do the class catalogs, both long and short term, the Future Now campaign and print materials for WED. I layout the graduation programs, and other special projects around campus.

Why it’s important for a new hire to know
We do our Marketing in-house to keep true to and consistent with our brand. There are a lot of projects that come out of Marketing, so please be patient. We are small, but mighty.   

A word of advice or encouragement for new employees
This is a great group of people to work with. Things change, often, but it’s all good. Eventually. 😊

I really try to listen to students, instructors, & employers to see what is needed, and then work to create things that fill those needs. I also work with employers who want to hire our awesome students.

I think it’s important to know that people here REALLY DO want you to grow and succeed. When I moved over to MNTC and my supervisor kept offering supplies and professional development and career growth opportunities I was like “wait, what? Is this a trick?” BUT THEY REALLY DO MEAN IT! So, if you want to grow here, the opportunity and support is there and is genuine.

You’ve landed in a really great spot. So, if you’re ever overwhelmed, remember that we want to help, and that no one is ever TRYING to make you feel that way. If I don’t know the answers to something you need, I’m happy to help you find them.

I assist them when they are applying to colleges or for scholarships, build resumes, or with mock interviews. I am also the liaison between MNTC and college recruiters. I host workshops, like What To Know Before You Go (things to expect when they get to college) or Major Pains (how to pick your major). I also recently hosted College App Day, which is a college fair that 17 different schools came to. I also take students on field trips, usually a school and then something fun/program related.

It is important for you to know about us because we genuinely want to help your students. Jessica and I both come from public education, we want to help your students to succeed. Also, as an MNTC grad, they never lose access to our department or our amazing resume builder/site. If we don't know the right answer, we will make some calls/emails and find out who does. We will never be annoyed by someone asking us for help.

MNTC is an amazing place, so go all in. Join committees, invest yourself in it because you get out as much as you put in. Also, take them up on the tuition reimbursement, keep bettering yourself. Also, do the workout classes at lunch. I know sweating at your desk isn't ideal, but hey, it's a free personal trainer!

I work closely with counselors, teachers, and administrators at each of the three Moore high schools. I meet with interested students on a weekly basis to provide career advising and general program and application information. I help organize presentations, career fairs, Sophomore Showcases, and interviews for each of my schools. In addition, I also work with MPS middle schools to create early career awareness opportunities for the younger population.

It’s important for new hires to know that I take my role very seriously. I feel an obligation to recruit the best candidates for our programs at MNTC. I am also very passionate about education and working with students. My goal is to reach as many students as possible and hopefully help them get one step closer to achieving their personal career goals.

MNTC is a wonderful place to work. I have only been here for a year, and everyone has made me feel welcome. My advice is, don’t be afraid to ask for help. I guarantee people around you would love to help.
