As far as I can see there was not really any advertising for the event, it was more of a seek and you shall find type of deal. I checked their social media and there was not any promotional posting for the event besides a post where it was not clear where the event was. Even when I went on PhoenixConnect to acquire tickets it was not easy to find them.

I could not find any promotional ads outside of social media for the UNC vs. Elon baseball game. I was vigilant around campus for posters or other ways to let people know about the game and I could not find anything.

Besides having to scroll down quite a bit on PhoenixConnect getting tickets was not a problem at all. The link redirected me to Ticketmaster where I was able to get a free ticket since I was logged into my Elon account. This is a standard practice at Elon, allowing audience experiences to be accessible to every student/faculty looking to attend an event. The one issue with this method of getting tickets is you cannot get more than one, which means if I did not get lawn tickets where you can stand wherever, it would be tough to coordinate sitting with friends in the stands.

When we arrived at the entrance, we were greeted by two staff members: one who was checking bags and the other who was admitting. There were also two employees at the table checking in people who had phoenix cards or physical tickets. They were friendly and we had a nice casual conversation as I struggled to get my barcode to open (not an issue with the tickets themselves, I am just technologically challenged at time.) as far as I’m concerned, no prior announcements were made as it was a standard baseball game with minimal confusion. During the game itself, announcements about gameplay and silly banter would come over the speaker. This adds energy to the game and keeps confused audience members engaged.

There was no program, which makes sense for a baseball game in my opinion. There was signage outside of the park indicating it was the location without any confusion for guests. There was no signage because it wasn’t really necessary, everything was straightforward.

Depending on what kind of ticket you got, there was lawn standing room and stand seating. There was a chain link fence around the field that as standing room we stood at and had a great view of the game. When we fi4st arrived we walked into the stands to grab empty seats, which was a little too easy. There was no security or someone checking tickets. Eventually we had to move because we were sitting in people’s seats, but it was good to get two different perspectives as an audience member. It was accessible as there were ramps to get up into the stands and if that was too daunting you could choose to sit on the lawn or stand by the fence like we did and enjoy the game. I would say there was a good 200 people there, pretty 50/50 in terms of Elon fans and UNC fans.

Between innings there was a slight break and players would practice and audience members would just hangout and chat. Restrooms were definitely sufficient and easy to locate with no wait times. There was a catering company right by the entrance who were giving out free chicken and plantains which was a great promotional tactic. In addition there was a food stand with various beverage options including sodas and alcoholic beverages. They also had a decent selection of candy and snacks, as well as hot food options. The cheapest item to purchase was a granola bar for only $2 and the most expensive were white claws at $10 a pop. Having a snack and something to drink definitely added to the experience as I feel like that’s a staple of going to a baseball game. Always nice to get a hot dog, enjoy the game and cool off with a nice drink. The event lasted a total of 3 hours and we did not stay the whole time. We stayed for 6 innings which was sufficient for us and our attention spans. The sun shining in our eyes was pretty brutal from the lawn and eventually we couldn’t take it anymore.

The audience seems to be having a great time and we’re pretty invested in the game. Because fans of both teams were present, there were time# when the UNC fans would be cheering and the Elon fans booing and showing signs of dismay and vice versa, but nothing got aggressive or over the top. There was a decent amount of police standing around, but they seemed to be watching the game and making conversation amongst themselves as well as people in the crowd. At one point they were laughing and petting a dog that was there. As far as we could see, everyone was well behaved and acting appropriately as one would at this type of event. No one was disrespectful, made sure to throw their trash away and on the lawn made sure there was room for others to see,

There were not specific moments for the audience to show their appreciation, it was kind of a free for all as people were hooting and hollering at random times. Everyone was in good spirits and invested in the game generally. We were not greeted before or after by the athletes, but that’s standard for these types of events.

There were not any merchandise stands around, but all athletic merch is available at the Elon bookstore which is known throughout the community. The billboard animations and witty remarks after certain plays helped the audience stay engaged and fire up the players. It definitely added to the drama when players started yelling amongst themselves and the emcee heard and played “Why Can’t We Be Friends?”.

I had a nice time at the event and it was nice to experience an event different from the ones I usually attend. It was great to be amongst my friends in beautiful weather. Growing up I constantly went to Yankee games with my family, so baseball always has a special place in my heart. It is one of the few sports I really enjoy watching because I actually understand it and it reminds me of going to a game in the summertime. It was also great to get to have some school spirit and be proud of my team, especially because they were doing really well.

A baseball game is the type of event you want to attend with other people, and I’m so glad I went with my two good friends Caleb and Laney- it was a nice bonding experience. We chatted throughout the game both about it and a multitude of other things. I saw a couple guys I knew also and we briefly chatted which was nice because it reminded me I am a part of the Elon community. I’d say I was probably most into the game, definitely cheering the most, but everyone was watching and having a good time
