The forest takes about 37 precent or 119,000 km2, of the Norwegian mainland. The forest is distributed between 125,000 forest properties. That means that 79 percent of the productive forest area is owned by private individuals. In Norway there is a long tradition of using the forests for animal game hunting. The forest is also growing since people are cutting less than allowed.

In Norway there are more than 65,000 lakes. 44% of all the water they contain is used. Primarily serving as cooling water. But there is one problem, whilst the water levels are still rising there is still a risk that water may become contaminated before reaching the consumer because of the replacement of deteriorating (become progressively worse) pipelines is taking too long.
