What nutrient stimulants can be added to quicken the degradation of the fungi?

Will your background information tell you that the fungi is not harmful to the health of other organisms?

Your question is super unique, however, I think it might be beneficial to simplify the overall research question a bit. I found that as I was reading it, I got a bit confused/lost towards the middle.

Also, will you be looking at petroleum oil specifically? Or will there be a variety of tests with other pollutants?

I think in order to make this more manageable with the resources available to you, it would be best to focus either on: studying which species of fungi native to NE Ohio is most effective, OR what nutrient stimulants can speed up the degradation. I think tackling both of them could prove challenging

I think your question is very cool, but I am wondering exactly how feasible it would be...I feel as if though this type of set up would require hours of lab work and examination daily in order to gather accurate and reliable information. Do you have the available resources to do this?

How will you test whether or not a fungi is safe for human health without it being an ethical concern?

Your question is very interesting. However, I think that focusing just on native species and their ability to degrade oil and not focus on nutrients that could speed this up. I think that this could allow you to better be able to determine the best fungi species for degrading oil in the limit amount of time we have.

However, do you find this question possible to completley follow through with. All the different seasons in Ohio can cause different growth rates of fungi. Along with how hard it might be to gather a lot of different types of fungi for this question.
