         <description><![CDATA[<div>-1969-1973, 1973-1974<br>-#37<br>-Republican<br>-Previously served as a U.S. representative and senator from california After successfully ending American fighting in Vietnam and improving international relations with the U.S.S.R. and China, he became the only President to ever resign the office, as a result of the Watergate scandal.<br>-It focused on reducing the dangers of the Cold War among the Soviet Union and China.&nbsp;<br>- Watergate scandal: The scandal included a break-in at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters in the Watergate complex in Washington, D.C., on June 17, 1972, and subsequent cover-up by people who worked for or with the White House, and by Nixon himself<br>-During Nixon's tenure, spending on Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid all increased dramatically.          <description><![CDATA[<div>-1974-1977<br>-#38<br>-Republican<br>-August 9th 1974 Gerald R. Ford took the oath of office and became our 38th president.&nbsp; From 1965 to 1973, he was House Minority Leader. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1913, he grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He starred on the University of Michigan football team, then went to Yale, where he served as assistant coach while earning his law degree.&nbsp;<br>-The United States foreign policy during the 1974-1977 presidency of Gerald Ford was marked by efforts to de-escalate the Cold War. He focused on maintaining stability and promoting detente with the Soviet Union. One of his key foreign policy achievements was the signing of the Helsinki Accords in 1975.<br>-Much of Ford's focus in domestic policy was on the economy, which experienced a recession during his tenure. After initially promoting a tax increase designed to combat inflation, Ford championed a tax cut designed to rejuvenate the economy, and he signed two tax reduction acts into law.<br>-His first major act when taking office was to grant a presidential pardon to Nixon for his role in the Watergate scandal, prompting a major backlash to Ford's presidency.<br>-There were the challenges of mastering inflation, reviving a depressed economy, solving chronic energy shortages, and trying to ensure world peace.<br><br></div>]]></description>

He believed that previous administrations had erred in allowing the Cold War concerns and realpolitik to dominate foreign policy.&nbsp;<br>-March 16 - Senate ratifies first Panama Treaty. October 13 - Civil Service Reform Act Signed. October 15 - Congress passes first energy package.<br>- Carter proposed an economic stimulus package that would give each citizen a $50 tax rebate, cut corporate taxes by $900 million, and increase spending on public works.<br>-Carter faced a mounting series of domestic economic problems, including increases in gasoline prices, rising inflation, and rising unemployment.<br><br></div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-1981-1989<br>-#40<br>-Republican<br>-On February 6, 1911, Ronald Wilson Reagan was born to Nelle and John Reagan in Tampico, Illinois.He attended high school in nearby Dixon and then worked his way through Eureka College. There, he studied economics and sociology, played on the football team, and acted in school plays. Upon graduation, he became a radio sports announcer.<br>-The main goal of the foreign policies during Reagans presidency was winning the cold war and the rollback of communism. It was achieved in Revolutions of 1989 in eastern europe.&nbsp;<br>-January 25 – President Reagan delivers the 1984 State of the Union Address to a joint session of Congress. July 17 – President Reagan signs the National Minimum Drinking Age Act. July 18 – President Reagan signs the Deficit Reduction Act of 1984.<br>-Reduce marginal tax rates on income from labor and capital. Tighten the money supply to reduce inflation. Reduce the growth of government spending. Reduce regulation.&nbsp;<br>-Congress passed the Gramm Rudman Hollings Balanced Budget Act, which called for automatic spending cuts if Congress was unable to eliminate deficits through the regular budget-making process.<br>-He generally avoided or downplayed social issues such as abortion, homosexuality, and racial integration.
