Beginning in September Team ELA began to lift the Instructional Priorities to define what the priorities look like in the context of a grade-level, standards aligned ELA classroom. Our definitions are anchored in the language of the Standards, actively using an asset-based lens to best deploy an actively antiracist, and equitable mindset that empowers student voice and competencies. By consistently analyzing student data we tailor and modify how we present future lessons, re-teach and assist students to clarify any misconceptions and to celebrate theirs, and our success.

Team ELA is consistently building capacity to anchor our instruction and collaborative work in the language and goals of the Standards. Our weekly sessions revolve around unpacking Standards and the focus skills those standards name. Using these focused discussions, each team member has a voice and contribution to developing our understanding and we ask each other questions to consistently clarify what the standard of focus is actually lifting and requiring. Through this work we have developed trust and empathy: we have come to rely on each other as thought partners. These transparent and focused activities has improved our instructional clarity and practice and we all notice improved results in our students work and their joyful productivity.

Each PLC collaborates to support plan lessons and activities that amplify an asset-based lens to develop our ability to give our students multiple opportunities to read, discuss and write about texts every day with each other and with their instructors. From analyzing MAP data, to unpacking standards and group work, we are dedicated to creating clear targets and priorities for our daily practice.
