  • Agriculture: Forests were cleared in an effort to increase farming space, generating surplus to encourage trade
  • Town Magnitude: Population increased in towns thanks to permanent residents (especially merchants)
  • Leadership: Lords and landowners became cumbersome and demanding, so new towns without lords were established
