The junk/antique shop where I aquired these, is in itself filled with items that were once cherished. I find it quite sad that these items no longer have families or people passing on their stories and charm. The sentemental value has ceased. So by speculating a new story, I hope to generate new interest and the want for people to keep that going.

Whenever I pass this Union station, I have always wondered if this place has ever had any trains, such as bullet trains, and I have wanted to visit that place if I want to because I haven't been on a train ever since I was a little baby and I have been wanting to ride on a train again.

Today, I've passed this place with my Mom on our way home and got a quick picture of it for my Concepts & Practices class assignment.

We had our first two sharing’s yesterday, fantastic to chat and work through ideas. There were a few kinks in connecting with universities across the pond, but overall, the experience felt positive. It's great to see students engaging, and we’re loving how messy and alive the studios are starting to look!

Looking forward to refining ideas moving forward. There were discussions about creating some quick videos for the Padlet, as well as setting a short task for a few students to complete during one of the days next week.

One of our animation students, Serena, has been creating some beautiful typographical work, transcribing memories and stories using the laser cutter. It’s a highly experimental process, and we can’t wait to see where it leads!

When the wind blows here, you feel it.

It’s a reminder that every child’s journey is unique, shaped by their experiences, dreams, and discoveries. The purpose behind this map is to invite the viewer to look beyond the playful forms and reflect on their own paths, those they have taken, those they left behind, and those still waiting to be explored.

It encourages us, as adults, to continue mapping our lives with the same fearless creativity and wonder that children so naturally embrace.

I’m adding layers to simulate the layers of history, as we individually embellish stories, or alter them over time.

I think these coasters are very significant within not only pub culture but also British advertisement as they usually feature brand names e.g drinks, sport or gambling advertisements.

While visiting different pubs/bars in Lincoln I have collected coasters along the way (I have 44 in total) and decided to scan them almost creating a wallpaper/collage of British advertisement.

I have mapped out all of my speculation around the items, where that lead me to, and then built on the narrative with Ai generated story snippets, single words and a nice little short story from Dave 👌

People need stories. when they’re not present, we kind of naturally make them up, so we have something to attach to and connect with.

Heather Connelly addressing everyone who joined us yesterday, sharing insights into the past 10 days of exploration and creation. She provided context for the work displayed on the walls and throughout the project space, highlighting the ideas, influences, and processes behind the project. It was a great moment to reflect on the journey so far, bringing together students, staff, and alumni in a space that thrives on collaboration and conversation.

In the Project Space Plus corridor, we showcased work from universities that have been working on a similar project and staying in contact with us over the past few weeks. This space highlighted the real connective element of the project, revealing the similarities in creative processes across different schools. Some truly fascinating work emerged, showing how ideas evolve in parallel across institutions. Hopefully, this is just the beginning, and we can build on these connections even further in the future.

Reflecting on an incredible 10 days in the Project Space Plus—this has been such a rewarding experience. I always love the Transcription project, and getting to work in the gallery as an extension of the studio is something I find exciting. The time spent working in a different space, with such an open and dynamic brief, allows for real transformation.

The energy throughout the project has been amazing—at times chaotic, frustrating, and messy—but that’s where the best creativity happens. Pushing through those moments leads to something meaningful. The students’ work ethic has been fantastic, and their sense of humour has made the process even more enjoyable.

We even introduced a tea-making corner, which has lifted morale! The students have fully embraced the space, using the gallery as a base while exploring, photographing, and collecting from the surrounding area. They’ve engaged with our friends in the U.S., asked great questions, and observed how similar projects are evolving elsewhere.

Seeing them utilize the workshops more, seek advice from technicians, and really push their ideas has been inspiring. This is what university—and the foundation course—is all about: pushing work, pushing ideas, pushing design. It’s been a fantastic experience overall!

Curation is an experience in itself. Thursday was full of energy—three hours to get everything up before the sharing, all while preserving the essence of a space that had been lived in, worked in, and shaped over 10 days. A studio, not just a gallery.

The students were asked to curate, to refine, to distill. It’s a hard task—like solving a puzzle where every piece is shifting. But they did it. They stripped things back, identified what worked, and made choices.

There’s something about placing your work next to someone else’s that changes how you see it. It’s never finished. But in that moment, it tells you what’s next. I hope the students felt that too.

We used every inch of wall space—so many of us, so much to show. And they did an incredible job.

At the end of this process I wasn't quite sure where to go next with it. But after a spark of inspiration, I have since speculated on turning these ideas into different memory boxes, using imagery and text.
