It's important to note that when designing options, all of them should allow students to express that they can meet the standards. That being said, there are certainly some far more challenging than others and it would be great to get students to embrace that challenge as that will be necessary for their future success. As teachers, we must foster self-regulation and coping skills in our kids to ensure that they don't shut down when they are challenged. Part of this is creating a safe judgment-free environment where failing is okay and normal but there is more to it.
