Aging Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina, with an annual birth of 83 babies per 10,000 inhabitants, is ranked as the last place in the region by birth rate, which, according to experts, is worrying.

demographic warning that in Bosnia and Herzegovina the birth rate is constantly falling.

In BiH, "major demographic changes" have taken place since the war.

"Population is older, which directly affects the birth rate.

The Economist, based on the prediction of the world's population of the United Nations, wrote that the inhabitants of Bosnia and Herzegovina could be extinct in only 500 to 600 years.

According to UN data, there is a birth-rate problem in 83 countries of the world. In these countries, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, women will not have enough daughters to replace them unless the fertility rate increases, that is, the number of children born per woman.

Thus, the inhabitants of BiH could completely "disappear" between 2500 and 2600

The report entitled "Population of the Federation of BiH" points to a constant decline in natural growth in the Federation in the period 1996-2015. Thus, for example, it was estimated that the natural increase rate from 8.9 in 1996 fell to 3.1 by 2003, and by 2013 it was in the minus (-0.1).

According to the verified data, which is stated in the Report, in 2010, the Federation of BiH received 22,382 newborns, while the deaths were 20,482 and the natural increase had a rate of 0.8 and 1.900 new inhabitants.

Natural increase fell to 613 in 2012, while in December 2013 the number of deaths was greater than the number of newborns (-320). In 2015, 19,358 babies were born in the Federation, while 21,703 people died, bringing natural growth to a record low of -2,345, or at a rate of -1.1. Although there was some improvement last year (-1,594) - not because more babies were born (about 200 babies were born less), but because fewer people died - the fact of the continuity of the decline in natural growth is unquestionable.
