Long term transfer goals are met when students can work independently to use their learning and apply it in more general terms, as in it can be used to fit a variety of tasks. In order to work independently they need the understanding that comes with the lessons we teach to see the bigger picture.

A long term transfer goal would be "effectively communicate with varied audiences and for varied purposes while displaying appropriate cultural knowledge" and the understanding to get them there is SWUT in Spanish when speaking with someone their own age or that they are familiar with it is appropriate to use the "tu" form of any verb and when one wants to show respect or is unfamiliar with their audience one should always default to the "Usted" form.
