The day, which took place at University Centre Harlow, situated on the Harlow College campus, involved sample sessions of press law, shorthand and news writing with a tour of our state of the art facilities, including TV and radio studios.

Harlow College recently celebrated their 50th anniversary of delivering journalism at the Velizy Avenue site. Former journalism students include Piers Morgan, former This Morning presenter Richard Madeley, Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger and BBC 6 Music presenter Steve Lamacq.

The Journalism Centre at Harlow College is Britain's oldest journalism school and is recognised as a leader in training by the industry. Staff specialise in many areas of journalism and retain strong links with the industry.

The Pearson Teaching Awards were established in 1999 as a means of recognising and celebrating excellence in education. The Awards honour outstanding teachers and teaching and highlight just how vital success in education is to the health and wealth of the UK.

The Teaching Awards offers everyone the opportunity to say “thank you” to the teacher who has helped them most.

The exhibition, Reflect 2015, ran from 7th – 11th July and showcased the creativity of media, photography and graphic design students, with a display of photographs, music videos, animation and specially designed children's books. These were the result of a successful collaboration between the college and pupils from The Downs Primary School, who created characters for the books. Also included in the exhibition were Stansted airport designs by the FdA Graphics students, one of which has been selected for use at the airport.

The scheme is being piloted by the Marketing team, who are taking both internal and external client briefs for creative project work and inviting Media, Journalism and Photography students to pitch for the work. The Marketing office is conveniently located right next to the large Creative Media space.

Labour Leader Makes a Return Visit

Harlow College hosted a second visit from Ed Miliband on Wednesday 12 November. After being welcomed to the College by Principal Karen Spencer, trainee journalists from the College were given the chance to meet the leader of the Labour Party for an informal interview session. He faced some tough questions on topics that included tuition fees, unemployment amongst young people, engaging with voters and how he deals with the pressure of leadership.
