Its primary job is to to bond cells together to form a protective outer layer on the surface of skin. Its purpose is to make/ hair, nails, horns, wool and feather. There are two forms of keratin: Alpha keratin which is found in mammals (including humans) and Beta keratin (snakes and reptiles). Keratin is made up of 18 amino acids, the most important being cysteine, the reason cysteine is so prominent
