How to read this:

The text is written by Joan Martinez-Alier who is an economist.
He sees the main source for environmental injustice in the changing social metabolism of industrial economies.
His conclusion is that, the environmental justice movements are all connected because the appear regularly in different spots in the world and because the movements raise globally attention. Even tougher there isn't a a single united organization.

There are a lot of different approaches and theories within the text. Some of them we already discussed within this course. Others won't be familiar for most of you.
But to read trough the text fluently we don't think it is necessary to have a deeper understanding for most of the concepts.
But there are a couple of things you should remember and unterstand while reading trough it. First of is the general idea of the EJ-Atlas and its superior aim. Another one would be the general knowlegede of why environmental justice is important and necessary.
And lastly a general understanding for the importance of environmental justice movements in their various forms.

While reading through the text, have the following questions in mind.

- is there such a thing as a global environmental justice movement. Why/why not?
- can you think of a way to increase the effectiveness of EJ- movements
- why are most of the conflicts registerd in the EJ- Atlas in rural areas and not in urban cities where more people live?
- can you think of any movements that exist in Germany?
- if you think of the different ways of mobilization and different forms. Which one would you motivate the most?
