Before becoming an Italian poet and scholar, growing up Giovanni lived in Florence with his mother and father. Ever since he was young he loved reading and writing, but his father forbade him from doing so since he wanted him to focus on business. Giovanni's father encouraged him to pursue business since he was a Tuscan merchant who worked in the trade industry. He greatly influenced Giovanni when he sent him to Naples, most likely to study business and finance when he was about 15 years old. There he had many family connections one being with the Bardi family. The Bardi family was a wealthy family who developed a huge financial and banking company. This company was one of the most powerful European businesses at the time. Here Giovanni was introduced to the early works of the Patriarch by scholars and met and fell in love with Fiammetta who played a big role in a lot in his later literary work.

<sup>
Bosco, Umberto.

Giovanni Boccaccio was a huge influence on the Renaissance in many ways. Giovanni Boccaccio created a humanistic culture that comprised classical studies and what became known as Renaissance humanism. Rennaissance humanism was a philosophy that all people should want to be educated and taught classical arts, literature, and science. This became a trend when Giovanni's writing began to step away from fictional stories to scholarship writing.

Bosco, Umberto. "Giovanni Boccaccio".

Giovanni Boccaccio is best known for his work as a poet and writer. The Decameron, which Giovanni created between 1349 and 1353, is one of his most famous works. The Decameron was a collection of stories that perfectly represented the ups and downs of manhood by utilizing a variety of literary techniques. The name “Decameron” also means “the book of ten days” which relates to what the book is about. The book's plot is separated into ten days, and the entire book has 100 different stories and themes within it. All this comes together to tell a vivid description of the breakout of the plague in Florence in 1348.

"Giovanni Boccaccio." Britannica Academic, Encyclopædia Britannica, 4 May. 1999. academic.eb.com/levels/collegiate/article/Giovanni-Boccaccio/15826.

Giovanni Boccaccio's work influenced the Renaissance in the development of literary culture. His work demonstrated that prose (the ordinary form of the written (or spoken) language), may tell a more realistic story than poetry. Despite the fact that poetry was still the most popular writing technique at the time, literary prose became more popular and accepted as a result of the publication of the Decameron.

Cartwright, Mark.
