Most of her photos are staged and not very natural but that was the medium she chose to work in.
This photo is very well known and shows the Rolling Stones in a rather "romantic" pose, as against their normal manic pose on a stage.

His works are staggeringly beautiful and each tell a story, this is particularly impressive given the equipment he used in often difficult terrain.
I first came across his work when I lived in the USA, a friend of mine giving me a book of his photos for a birthday present. Looking at the photos I thought "I wish I could do that" and it sparked my interest in landscape photography.

He has an exhibition at the Beaverbrook Gallery showcasing people from New Brunswick. The photos are mainly B&W and show its subjects in a portrait pose.
Striking to me is when you view all the photographs together and you see the variety of interesting people to be found in New Brunswick, which makes you want to know more about their background.

It stands on a hill around 500ft high and can be seen for miles around, and its often seen as a sign that you are back in the north east.
The purpose of using this location was to get scale, repetition, rule of 1/3rds, framing and leading lines. A photographer can transfer ownership of the image(s) via a legal document otherwise the copyright stays with the photographer. Often a commercial photograph will be protected with a watermark making it easier for any prospective publisher to understand ownership.
In many countries photographing people or property requires the person or owner to agree to having the photograph taken. This doesn't always apply to people in public places, however care should be taken to review the local laws to ensure legality.
Posting to social media is a bit of a minefield, often when you post, the app's T&Cs grant the owner of the app permission to use the photograph, however that does not extend to users of the app. Often the user will assume they can copy the work with impunity, so if important the photographer should take steps to protect their work i.e. watermark.
If you intend to use the photograph for commercial use then you should review the laws around the subject before progressing. Note: commercial use is not just for direct profit it also includes any situation where the publisher can benefit from the photograph i.e. marketing.

For me, photographs should represent an instant in time and tell a story, you may want to improve the image by altering colouration, tone or aspect. However changing the meaning of the photograph by adding or subtracting elements is ethically wrong.
Much is made nowadays of photographs being photoshopped on social media, to make the girl prettier, the guy more muscular, the car more exciting etc. etc. This has gone on for years in marketing but was accepted (maybe it shouldn't have been) but now it is affecting the masses and promoting misleading images.
In saying all that, its a difficult subject for a professional photographer, if shooting for a magazine and the magazine wants a certain look then the photographer is under pressure to deliver that look otherwise they won't get paid. Take Annie Leibovitz, one of the greatest photographers of our time yet I'm sure she will have altered photographs to suit her client's needs. Maybe I'm wrong but judging by the furore around many published photographs I think the ethical question remains unanswered.
From my perspective I will edit photographs to improve its look but not to change its meaning.

I have developed a standard sequence of edits (template) which I look at for all photos, I then look at any changes I want which are not included in the standard set, and apply them if necessary. The standard edits I use are:

Like many people I'm saddened by the state of downtown Gateshead, the High St. is now a shell of its former self (although there are supposed to be redevelopment plans). The "highlight" of downtown is the Trinity Sq. development, however even that is showing signs of deuteriation. I wanted to take shots of the current state of the area (including the homeless) to document it for future reference.

Close to the Square is the Gateshead Interchange, bus and metro station. I took some photos of the bus station and while i was taking photos of local shops I was approached by a man in uniform who told me this was private land and I was not allowed to take photos. It was a relatively bright day and and I couldn't get a slow enough shutter speed to show the train motion. I wanted at least 1 second but it was showing up as over exposed on the camera; 1/13 was the best balance on the camera, however when post processed the image it wasn't particularly over exposed and I suspect I could have shot with a much slower shutter speed.

I have mainly used the a6000 however I've found that it struggles with low light shots because of its small size and lack of image stabilisation. I used the a5000 as a point and shoot option, and am now using the a700 to hopefully improve my low light shots.

One very practical outcome of the course was it caused me to think on how I wanted to use my cameras. As I mentioned above I have 3 "DSLR" type cameras and I essentially treated them as interchangeable, however after using them during the course, I know now they are each suited to specific tasks:
a6000 - Use in good natural lighting where you can achieve a high shutter speed.
a5000 - Best used as a point and shoot option

In addition most of the working parts are made out of plastic and when any camera is attached there is movement at the head assembly.

Lighting - Lighting is everything in photography, good light is preferred but you need to be able to deal with poor lighting situations. Lighting can be creative with long shutter speed shots in dark situations and creative lighting sources for objects and people, good lighting can turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.
Difference between Manual and Automatic - Up until this course I had almost exclusively shot in Automatic mode and hadn't really thought much about Manual mode. Now that I understand the benefits of Manual and the control it gives you, I'm not sure why I ever shot in Automatic (probably for speed of shot). I find it more difficult to use Manual but I'm sure in time it will become easier.
Raw v JPEG - Similar argument to above, I'd always shot in JPEG because the photos were easier to manipulate. I never gave much thought to the editing and post processing process. I now shoot in Raw because it gives me that editing capability.
Right equipment - Previously I thought I had the right equipment for photography, but the course and talking to other participants has shown me that I need to be more selective in what I buy in future.
Every picture tells a story - As well as being a Rod Stewart album title, I've learnt that a photograph should make you think and pause for thought.
