Laryngeal cancer may be treated with a laryngectomy, a type of surgery used to try to cut the 'infected' tissue out. Unfortunately, this surgery involves partial or full removal of the voice box. This means you will not be able to speak again, and you must breathe through a stoma (a hole in your neck). Other treatments often used are radiotherapy (using waves similar to x-rays to kill cancer cells), chemotherapy (using drugs and chemicals to kill off cancer cells), or a combination of the two, called chemo-radiotherapy.
