i do not think this should be considered that political but it is anyway. I personally feel as though if you are not a part of the problem, you should not be offended. If you are offended, you are the target audience for the ad and part of the problem. But then again men are not taught to express their emotions in a healthy way so they got mad about the ad and angry instead of maybe understanding that it is not targeting all men, just those who are part of the problem

Almost every action made by a large company or corporation is to somehow increase profit and getting involved with mainstream political issues is an easy way to appeal to a lot of people, especially those who tend to be focusing on these issues already. If ye get that uber-loud California market on your side, then you'll have that uber-loud California market advertising for you.

Gillette was a good company to make this comparison because they are connected to making oneself better

I think that awareness and sensitivity to issues that society previously overlooked is becoming more popular/ well received. So Gillette's decision to air this commercial now could be to contribute to this culture and get more positive media attention. This company past advertising techniques could get a lot of negative criticism so this was a way for them to re brand as well...

While their main demographic is men, they do sell women's products. This sort of "coming out" in opposition to toxic masculinity is more of a long-term strategy to make people view them better in the future. And honestly, I don't imagine most men would stop buying their razors because of this commercial anyway. Its largest effect is slowly expanding the customer base

It will be interesting to see where Gillette goes from here. They will have to be very careful not to destroy this image they wanted to create with this commercial. They clearly had not been openly in support of this sort of idea before this commercial, at least not openly. That's clear from something like how they plaster their logos on half-naked cheerleaders on a football field. A lot of stuff could very quickly discredit Gillette at this point and make them highly hypocritical. There seems to be a pretty common trend of men in leadership positions--political or business--being accused of sexual misconduct. If something like that were to come out regarding Gillette, that would quickly discredit them

i think that there is something to be said about the fact that their future is unclear. now a lot of people are boycotting them and also receiving a lot of backlash, and i feel as though that is evidence that maybe this was done for real and not for the fact of selling more products. people dont want to do things to stop selling theri products

I found the article to be quite funny, I wasn't really able to take the topic they were referring to seriously. I think that kind of harms their purpose. I understand it's supposed to be satirical, but I think they took the satire a bit too far
