I don't make many automata myself, but I have been known to make some out of food..! I really enjoy these online workshops, meeting new participants and sharing inspiring making stories.

Hello! I'm Tiffany and I'm excited to be part of this workshop. I'm an active volunteer at the Claremont Makerspace (in Claremont, New Hampshire, USA). At the makerspace I focus on electronics and computer-controlled fabrication (CNC, lasers, 3D printers). I've run a robotics course for all ages before, but really want to offer something related to automata. At home, I have a small flameworking studio and make a lot of marbles. I think a marble machine build might be in my future. I love the creative process, learning new things, and being introduced to other people's passions.

Hello everyone,
My name is Vivian Izsack and I live in the USA (Boca Raton, Florida). I love making, building and assembling things. I stumbled across an automatons video and have been fascinated with them ever since. My goal is to learn the mechanics of these devices but, more importantly, have fun in doing so. Recently, I have begun hand carving characters. My hope is to take the carved figures and add kinetic motion to them. I am excited about this course and cannot wait to get started!

Hi, I am Ann and very glad to be part of this class. I work at a library in Northern KY and have tried to continually host making workshops and build community through making (especially kids). I am a generalist and wish to develop more skills to share with others. I like to use Microbits to introduce kids to coding and this class is special as it brings in more of the hands on arts. In the works is a project where we will try to use similar tech for storytelling.

Hi I'm Robin
I have been building automata for about nine years. All mine, so far, have been mechanical with an electric drive. Cams are fabulous, but a bit limiting for really complex sequencing. I am really looking forward to learning how to programme the BBC micro:bit and the much better control it offers.
I build automata for friends and family and have a website at: adeneyautomata.co , which shows some of my pieces.

Hi, my name is Toni Coleman. I live in Ketchum, Idaho where I've worked as a middle school classroom teacher for over twenty-five years. I've always tried to blend my interest in building and tinkering with classroom curricular activities. While studying Ancient Civilizations students used Mindstorms robots to navigate an ancient Egyptian Tomb, (also using parts and motors to build obstacles like the ultrasonically triggered mummy.) During a study of the Middle Ages, they used Makey Makeys and Scratch to animate cardboard castles.) So now, it's my turn! I am hoping to explore using recycled items and electronics to create meaningful gifts or perhaps interesting works of art. I also truly look forward to meeting all of you!

Hi, this is Cindy from Hertfordshire, UK. I am a big fan of Cabaret Mechanical Theatre's amazing automata collections. I have never tried to make automata in the past and thought this is a quite complex challenge to add mechanism of movement on a piece of art. I am excited on joining this course to develop my hands-on ability and mechanical creativity skills and see where I will end up.
