In order to develop "grit" within our students we need to instill a sense of value to reaching the final solution or understanding of the concept.

Her message was so true. I am not sure how to make students understand that hard work is half the battle. So many of my students have no work ethic. I often feel that their parent's have not taught them how to work, and that is one reason they have trouble being able to "get" math concepts. They aren't willing to persevere when they don't get it the first time. They need "grit".

We can help our students to develop this trait by discussing grit and its meaning. During the year, we need to remind students of this trait when they want to give up.
