There are many reasons why Martin Luther King Jr is an incredibly influential figure. He was the face of the civil rights movement in the 1960s and moved the world towards a change. Most impressive is how he promoted love ad acceptance above all else. King was a preacher before he was a political activist, giving back to his community spiritually. He applied lessons learned in his life to the movement, encouraging peaceful protests. His persistence led the civil rights movement and left behind a legacy of love.
- Abigail Creech

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was an iconic and important person during his lifetime because of what he strove to accomplish. The idea of inequality between dark and light skin was what controlled society, and the fight for equality had been fought by many in numerous protests. Despite the treatment of African Americans during this time period, MLK Jr. stood in front of thousands and lead people toward a change. He did so peacefully and spoke for what he believed in. Overall, the sharing of his dreams encouraged the great amount of progress toward equality and fairness we see today. The recognition his memory receives is very much deserved.
-Amy Hirschey
