In 2019, the WWF published a report about the actions the Mediterranean countries can make to protect efficiently the sea. The most important aspect is recycling, because too much waste ends its life in landfills and incineration systems (42% in controlled landfills and 1% in uncontrolled ones). The uncontrolled sites seem not to have a big impact, but they actually are the biggest sources of plastic leakage.

The seventh continent is not a real continent where you could walk, it represents the areas where there is such a big accumulation of plastic that you can't even see the water under. It's extremely disturbing for the fauna as it changes the marine environment and the marine life.

This is the map found in the web site of the previous post.

It shows where the plastic waste is located around the world. There are 5 oceanic areas of plastic accumulation : North Pacific, South Pacific, North Atlantic, South Atlantic and Indian Ocean. Moreover, the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea also have a high plastic concentration, that's why we have to be concerned about stopping pollution !

Plastic pollution in the sea is lethal for the marine life.

Macroplastic can capture and entangle fauna, making them vulnerable to predators and injuring them. Moreover, microplastic are invisible to the naked eye and toxic, so wildlife accidentally eat them and poison themselves.

The most vulnerable species are whales, sea turtles, sea birds, fish, and predators (predators because they eat fishes that have plastic in them).

Here are some useful ideas that could completely change the pollution :

- Governments should improve waste recuperation systems to stop it before it reaches the sea.

- Recycle more types of plastic instead of throwing them in landfillings.

- Invest in plastic alternatives.

- Encouraging people to act and do the solutions presented on the previous post.

- Cities should reinforce the number of trash cans to encourage people to use them so trash doesn't finish in the sea because of the wind.
