During the first week of school, students will create what their "end" (of said grade level) will look like.  Perhaps students will be guided through predetermined questions until of a certain age? At the end of the year, the students will check in with what they wrote. Did you accomplish what you set out to do? As leaders we have to be better prepared to guide our staff and students in the right direction towards our end goals. We must encourage staff and students to create their goals and then develop a plan to reach those goals. It is also important at various points throughout the year to revisit our goals and revise if necessary. I assisted in developing a "Student Success Plan" for the students in our school to complete during the school year. They must create goals, a plan to achieve the goals, and then reflect on the goals throughout the year. From that end, the school team must work to establish specific goals and skills both academic and interpersonal, that students can demonstrate. "You’re building a legacy—like it or not—regardless of your age, sphere of influence or net worth.  Every personal interaction, every email, every tweet, like or post adds to your body of work that will reverberate generationally through friends, family, co-workers and associates." We need to live our lives this way, and we need to teach our children how to live their lives this way. I love how they are doing this at A.B. Combs and they give us a direct example through the art work shown on pg. 49 in The Leader in Me. Combs elementary and the culture they create virtually around the students themselves. In addition having students create self portrait for TIME  magazine envisioning what they'd be honored on the cover for or the morbid thought of your funeral. All items truly make you delve into a deeper self thought: why are we here, where are we going? Just as the quote mentions in the Grande Hall of Leadership, if you don't care of the outcome than the path you take really doesn't matter" - Have a purpose, don't aimlessly wonder to a destination.

What are teachers like? It's about knowing what you want to achieve and finding the right path to get there. The quote below "fall down seven times, stand up eight," is what comes to mind when I think of making a plan with the end in mind. It's about being honest enough with yourself to know that not every plan is perfect but if you keep focused on the end result, you'll keep re-imagining how to get there and you'll stand back up after each "fall" to start working towards "mission accomplished" and finding the right path.

For example, the school that was described in the Leader in Me book made it very clear how important the 7 habits were to their school. Sometimes I feel like schools have many separate programs and initiatives but lack a clear vision to tie everything together. A school with the end in mind has the ladder in the right place and it is visible to everyone who enters the building.
