The motivation to do anything—like change your entire life around—doesn’t just come from some magical, mystical place within you. Action is both the effect of motivation and the cause of it. You’ll figure out whether or not it’s right or not in good time (trust me), but only if you stop procrastinating and start engaging with the world.

Borrowed Words

With well over 600,000 words, English has a larger vocabulary than any other language - but many of these words have been "borrowed" from other languages.

English has German and French roots, so a lot of its vocabulary is similar to words in these languages. Many words have been formed from Latin and ancient Greek, especially for new inventions, such as television and helicopter.

Words from hundreds of other languages have been taken into English, too, often with slight changes in their spelling and pronunciation. Of course, other languages sometimes borrow English words in return.

The following is just a small selection of 'English' words and the languages they came from:

This is because the monarch’s birthday is marked by a parade known as Trooping the Colour and Edward VII, who reigned from 1901 to 1910, decided it wouldn’t be very fun to celebrate this in November (when his birthday was) because it was cold so moved his own birthday to June.
2. The Royal Family isn’t allowed to sign autographs

Royals, such as King Charles, are not supposed to sign autographs.

This is incase somebody tries to forge their signature.

3. Queen Elizabeth was the longest reigning British Monarch of all time

Queen Elizabeth reigned since 1952 making her the longest reigning monarch in British history.

The Queen’s favourite dogs were Corgis and when one of her Corgis had a baby with a Dachshund she created a new species of dog called Dorgis!

5. A man married to The Queen doesn’t instantly become King.

If a woman marries a king they become a queen, for example if Prince William becomes King then his wife Kate will become a queen.

However, it doesn’t work the other way around.

Сontemporary use of Shakespeare's work

The contributions gathered in this special issue are products of two workshops, organised within the KREAS project (Creativity and Adaptability as Conditions for the Success of Europe in an Interrelated World) at Charles University in Prague, in 2020 and 2021.
