Personal Reflection on the Podcast

“How to Live a Meaningful Life”

The podcast “How to Live a Meaningful Life” made me reflect deeply on what truly matters in life. I used to think personal achievements like good grades or praise were the most important. But this talk challenged that belief.

The speaker explained that while personal achievement brings happiness, it is often temporary and self-centered. True meaning, he said, comes from helping others and being part of their stories. I remembered the times I helped my classmates with homework or supported a friend going through hard times. Those moments gave me peace and purpose, even if no one noticed.

From this talk, I’ve learned that a meaningful life is not about being the star of the story, but about playing a supporting role with love and generosity. When we give others space in our lives and enter theirs, we create a circle of meaning that lasts longer than success or fame.

“How to live a meaningful life?” This is the question everyone needs to think about and find their answer. Brain S. Lowery shared three factors to create meaning in his life: Consistency, Purpose, and Significance. Based on these three factors, I want to renew myself, think positively, and live more meaningfully than before.

First, coherence is the feeling that I sense this life has a certain order; everything becomes easier, not chaotic or complicated. Every event that happens to me, I feel the meaning and message that is being sent to me, not always complaining about life being unfair to me. Second, purpose is the motivation for me to wake up every day. It gives me the motivation to wake up; every day is a new experience in my life. I don't want to wake up without understanding why I have to wake up. That's when I don't see the meaning in my life, and I want to run away and sleep forever in the fear of tomorrow. I need to have a purpose in my life so that each day becomes more meaningful to me. Finally, significance is the feeling that I can influence my life, and more than that, it can influence others and have meaning for others. Sometimes it's a feeling of happiness; sometimes it's a little regret when I have a bad influence on others.

Once, when I was drinking coffee in a small shop in Vietnam, there was a kid selling lottery tickets—a skinny kid, his face covered in dust. He came and asked me if I wanted to buy a lottery ticket. In Vietnam, lottery tickets are very popular, costing only 10,000 VND per ticket. I usually don't buy lottery tickets, but when I saw him, I felt sorry for him. So I gave him 20,000 VND. But he didn't accept it; he just accepted when I bought two lottery tickets from him. At that time, my emotions were chaotic, and I didn't know what to do. I accepted the two lottery tickets, and he also took the money of those two tickets with an innocent smile and a word of thanks. Although his fate was not lucky, I saw on his face that he was always happy, not sad; he was very innocent. Every time I remember that story and through this podcast, I ask myself: "What makes me have a meaningful life?" For me, it's simply that I have a goal so that every day I wake up with joy, and every day I live is a new experience that writes the story of my life.

Joseph Nguyen.

Beyond Achievements: Finding Meaning

Brian S. Lowery's TED Talk, "How to Live a Meaningful Life," offers a profoundly insightful reflection on a fundamental human quest. His personal anecdote about achieving tenure and still feeling a sense of "is this all there is?" resonates deeply, highlighting a common, yet often unacknowledged, paradox: that what we conventionally pursue as markers of success—personal achievements—do not always equate to a meaningful life. This immediately prompts a re-evaluation of our own aspirations and what truly drives us.

Lowery's framework of coherence, purpose, and significance provides a clear lens through which to understand this disconnect. While personal achievements can certainly provide coherence (making sense of our path) and purpose (driving us towards goals), they often fall short on significance. This is where his argument truly shines: the assertion that genuine meaning transcends the self and is found in our relationships and the stories we share with others. It's a powerful shift from an individualistic pursuit to a communal one, suggesting that our deepest fulfillment comes not from what we get for ourselves, but from what we give and how we connect.

The idea that the pursuit of meaning might not always be synonymous with immediate happiness is also a crucial, and perhaps uncomfortable, truth. It challenges the prevalent notion that every endeavor should lead to joy. Instead, Lowery suggests that true meaning can involve discomfort, sacrifice, and a "supporting actor energy"—a willingness to step out of the spotlight for the betterment of others. This reflection urges us to consider that lasting impact and true significance are woven into the fabric of our interactions, leaving us with the profound realization that our legacy isn't built on individual accolades, but on the enduring role we play in the lives and stories of those around us.

Ravi Teja

Life has meaning when?

Through the podcast, the speaker wants to convey to us messages about the meaning of living a meaningful life, such as: living a personal success is good but not enough; The meaning of life comes from connecting and serving others; Creating a meaningful life when entering the stories of others; And the deepest meaning will last after you are gone.

First of all, Personal achievement is good - but not enough. Achievements such as a good job, fame or recognition only bring temporary happiness. After achieving success, people can still feel empty and wonder: "Is that all?" The meaning of life comes from connecting and serving others. Through helping, guiding, or supporting others, a deep and lasting sense of life value is created. The story of Miguel's student shows that helping others succeed can bring greater joy than achieving personal achievement.

Second, participating in a story that is not your own is the way to create meaning in life. When you contribute to the journey of others, even in a supporting role, you are living a meaningful life. It can be the role of a parent, a teacher, a friend, a supporter... The deepest deeds and meanings will last long after you are gone. Achievements will fade, but the mark you leave in the lives of others will echo long after. Therefore, the true meaning of life is when you help others shine.

Conclusion: A meaningful life is not living for yourself, but living to leave a positive mark on the lives of others. That is what makes life profound, sustainable and worth living.

Paul Thinh.

In his Ted talk, he explores the importance of living a meaningful life, success the flash of excitement and focus on the mind. He emphasizes that success is not seen outside, but inside in our hearts. Life is truly matter and continue even in the most terrifying experience of our life. The talk invites me to reflect on my values and grow in myself. This argues that societal pressures lead us to chase our dreams and goals. Moreover, encourages me to pursue what I want that help myself. I have this one experience that focuses on my dreams and to have empathy to other people. By fostering deeper connection with others, I can enhance my relationship towards my brothers and sisters to have also the role of their life. Lowery's insights remind us that life’s significance often lies in the small moments and the impact we have on those around us. In conclusion, the talk is a very powerful reminder to me, especially prioritize what truly matters to me, and don't waste any time. This highlights to focus only in the goals and dreams that makes me happy and allows me to grow as a person. Rodulf Andrew Fugoso

Living a meaningful life means living with purpose and love. Brian S. Lowery says that meaning does not come from being rich or famous. It comes from helping others and being part of their lives. Many people think that success will make life meaningful. But success alone is not enough. We need something deeper. Lowery teaches that we find meaning when we care for others and support them. We don’t always have to be the main person. Sometimes, we just need to be a good friend, a helper, or someone who listens. This helps me see that life is not only about me. It is about how I treat other people. If I love, help, and share with others, my life becomes more meaningful.Even small things, like saying kind words, helping at home, or listening to a friend, can bring meaning to our lives. We do not need to do big things to live a good life. We just need to live with love, kindness, and purpose.

In the end, I learned that living a meaningful life is about making others feel loved and cared for. That is the kind of life I want to live. Jhave Arellano

In life we encounter many things that can make our life be meaningful but the question is can we make our life meaningful without any money that we have or any achievement? In TED talk, Brain S. Lowery highlighted about to live our life meaningful Brain S. Lowery also emphasized that is often comes from participating in the stories of others rather than solely pursuing our personal achievements. Even if we can get a billions of achievements in life or we have a lot of money but is it the things that we really need in life? Brain S. Lowery also emphasizes that we should not focus on our own life , we should be part of the stories of others because money is not permanent time comes that money might lost but if we are part of the stories of others they will forever remember you even how long the time past. Even the small participation or a small things that we help to others stories it has a big impact and meaningful to them. In conclusion, it is importance to us to help other people rather than focusing to our own goals , we should be more compassionate to other people considering that we are not permanent in this world time comes that we die but the importance of it is we are part of the success of others, we should put to our minds that if we help to other people time comes that they will help you if you need a help.

Carlou Parone

According to Brian S .Lowery how to live in meaningful life, that he shared to us how to be in a meaningful life. We encountered a challenge's is part of our life, or normal, to our life, and we will train our lives to face the challenges we encounter, a meaningful life that gives us a curiosity that we can think about what the purpose of our life or what is the role of our life in this world, so that is the question now, so meaningful life is this is our life, like we will explore our life, so according to Brian S. Lowery in his TED talk is the meaningful life is that we need to look opportunity in the others stories,

that he or she sharing his stories that we know the life that he or she experience that we learn is the positive way that he or she shared her story, and Brian also said that our life is full of challenges but this challenge have a solution that we can fix it and to solve it.

So Brian S. Lowery to his TED talk I'm sure many people influence that he give an inspiration to how we will have a goal to our life that we are dreaming and doing our dreams that we will come true, if we want we will do to be successful to our goal and to achieve our dreams we want in life like a dreams we want to go, or we want to explore etc.

Richard Dumaran.

The podcast made me realize what it truly means to live a meaningful and fruitful life, not just for ourselves, but for others as well. Brian S. Lowery emphasized the importance of looking opportunities to participate in other's stories. While it’s natural to us focus on personal achievements, but doing it constantly make us forget about the people who around and support us.

In my experience, achieving self achievement is exciting and thrilling. However, there are times when those accomplishments can make us feel superior, that lead us to lose a sight in participation. Sometimes, we also forget our role as "Kuya" or "Ate" that is expected to guide and teach to help others to grow. Instead, we more become self-centered.

As a former student leader, this Ted Talk Daily Episode reminded me of my responsibility by nurturing and guiding my fellow officers. Being a “Big Brother” meant helping them grow into responsible, service-oriented leaders. Leadership is not about holding on to authority; it's about building relationships, sharing knowledge, and preparing others to take on future responsibilities. Everything in life such as titles, positions, and power is just only temporary. Ultimately, we will entrust these roles on to others.

Just like Lowery’s impact on his students who, because of his guidance, nurtured into more than just professionals, we too can make a lasting impact by sharing our wisdom and experience. One quote that remind me of this podcast is, “Knowledge cannot be stolen, but it can be shared.” When we share our knowledge and ideas, we become more fruitful, and meaningful to those around us.

In conclusion, living a meaningful life is not just about our personal achievements. It’s about looking for opportunities to help others to succeed and being part of someone journey. By sharing our wisdom and connecting with others, we can be an inspiration of growth and make our lives truly meaningful and fruitful.

-Kenneth Miles Perez

My reflection about the podcast on " how to live a meaningful life?" emphasizes that even how big is your achievements, you can ask yourself that. Is this it? Am I fulfilled? Or am I satisfied with what I have achieved? The speaker talks about how to live a meaningful life through being part of another's story. It also emphasizes the importance of relationships. Relationships are what provide meaning, a meaning on how to live a meaningful life. The speaker also emphasizes three big ideas, which are: Coherence, Purpose, and Significance. These three are associated with meaningfulness in life.

I have a personal story that gives my life meaning and fulfillment. Sometimes I receive some big achievements in terms of my academic performance and more. In some of my achievements, I felt not fulfilled. "Yes", I'm telling the truth, but maybe some of you didn't believe. I feel neither incomplete nor unsatisfied with some of my achievements. But there is a time when we have a big event in our school, and I am the one who is in charge of helping my classmate. It's more likely his couch. And during the event, I felt something that I had never felt before. I felt I was also competing during that time. Even though we don't win, it feels like my questions are answered, and I feel happiness and joy that is different.

Living a meaningful life not only symbolizes how many or big your achievements are, it also symbolizes the importance of giving opportunities, being part of others' stories, enjoy and being happy with what you're doing, building relationships, and also loving one another, that perfectly defines how to live a meaningful life.

-Mark Louie Camensi

I learned in the podcast on "how to live a meaningful life." That life is amazing, life is incredible. We have our achievements, but in our lives, it is not just about our achievements, but also about other people that we become part of their achievement and their success in life. I also learned that our lives matter because each of us has a purpose. I also learned the coherence, we live by our values, goals, and beliefs. I also realize that we have to connect our thoughts, feelings, and actions to create a sense of wholeness. We have a purpose in our life, as like said, we have different directions and significance, and being genuine and sincere, being satisfied and content in our achievements is makes our lives meaningful. When your life is coherent, you are more likely to feel motivated, focused, and at peace. But sometimes there are some thoughts that pop into our minds, like, "Is this enough?" or "Did I do my best?" I went through that situation, and the best thing that I did was pray and continue what I started. So I learned in this podcast was it's not just all about achievements that will make your life meaningful, but being part of the story that is not your own, that you are part of their success, their experience in their life, is to make your life meaningful and a better life.

-James Virtudazo
