I believe Saturday school should not happen because Greg Coffey said " As you know, the vast majority of our games, matches and meets happen on Saturday's. Also, Kayla silver said "that sending students to Saturday will drastically increase the number of instructional hours they have."

I feel like Saturday school is a good thing if it is optional. It would make a great extracurricular. Children who are falling behind will be able to catch up and others can work ahead. Due to it being optional it will keep extra time for other kids who participate in sports or other extracurricular activities. Studies have given positive outlooks in favor of both against and for Sunday school so it would only be smart to try it out and see how it works. The worst that would happen is no kids show up. In that case, that school can just stop doing it.

My position in this debate is that I'm for Saturday school. I believe that kids seem to forget over the weekend what they learned during the week so by having one more school day, it would make a difference. For example, some people like Kayla Silver researched articles before she took her stand. She believed that Saturday school would be beneficial for kids education. She had hope that kids would be able to retain more of what they learned during the week and help them to excel in school. Another example from the news article "The benefits of Extended Learning Time" was also for Saturday school. They believed that kids "would benefit from spending more time in school." The research they conducted came out to needing 300 more educational hours in school for kids to improve academically.

My position is against having mandatory Saturday school. As Greg Coffey stated in the Community Sports Alliance, many activities—whether sports, family, or trips—are held on Saturdays, and having mandatory Saturday school would cut into that. However, I am not opposed to extended learning time in a different way. In Local News, in their science section, they wrote, "This could be done by extending each school day or by adding an additional day of instruction (like Saturdays) each week. Or, schools could shorten summer breaks." There are other alternatives to extended learning time; mandatory Saturday school is not the only way to benefit from higher student achievement.

My position is against having mandatory Saturday school. I think that students already have a full enough work load with five days of school and I think we all need breaks. There are also usually extra curricular activities such as sports and other things sometimes happening through the school. I also think there is an insane amount of stress of teachers already and I think they deserve weekend breaks just as much as students. I do think that it could be good if schools made Saturday school optional for kids who want it or for parents who feel like their children need it.

I do not agree with having Saturday school. Kids already put in close to 40 hours of schooling during the week, plus whatever time they spend studying after hours. Kids also have many activities that they are involved in after school and on the weekends. Some may even have a job that they go to on the weekends. If Saturday school was mandatory, a lot of kids would suffer because there would not be as much time for their fun activities.

My position would be to go against having mandatory Saturday Schools. Kids already have a lot of load on their shoulders with having to do work for five days a week. Having breaks during the weekend is a good thing because we all need a break from school—You can put your time into any activities such as sports, spending time with family, your job, etc. In E-news, they put, "They also argue that extended learning time could be hard on students—many of whom are already stressed out by the amount of work they have. Finally, we cannot ignore the argument that many teachers are already overwhelmed by the amount of time they spend teaching, planning, and grading." If Saturday School was mandatory, then it'll be pretty stressful if you overwork yourself to a certain extent as a student and a teacher. In Local News, they wrote, "This could be done by extending each school day or by adding an additional day of instruction (like Saturdays) each week. Or, schools could shorten summer breaks." Saturday Schools can be a good thing if it was optional for those who'll need them.

My position on the potential Saturday school in this imaginary school district is that I do not support it. For example, the source "Local Newspaper, Science News" explains there is still a lot that is unknown about it, and there's not enough research to prove it is effective in improving students' and teachers' lives. Lastly, the source "Local Teachers Union e-News" explains how it would overwhelm students and teachers who are already stressed out enough if there was an extended school week.
