What is an innate behavior?

Innate behaviors are behaviors that all members of a species show when they are near the same stimulus. These are important because all members of a species use this to go through many basic life functions. The innate behaviors that organisms show are use in order to survive and reproduce such as the ability to hunt for food and make a nest for a bird. Since they are passed from generation to generation, they can help a population grow and survive over time.

How has this behavior become an adaption?

This behavior has become an adaptation because the organisms that exhibited these behaviors from an early age had a distinct survival advantage. This became an adaption when the organisms with the instincts to survive passed down the traits from generation to generation, causing the adaption to spread.

Overall, social behavior is beneficial to almost any species that uses it. It supports the idea of working together in order to survive. Although some organisms may be at risk, they do it for the benefit of the entire community, for many of these behaviors are innate. They are instinctual traits that allow the greater good to survive.
